15th July 2022

In school this week

Our last full week of the academic year and it has been a busy one! You will see below how learning has continued in school alongside a wide variety of enrichment taking place. The children have benefited from some truly exciting and engaging learning experiences in every year group, from African drummers for Reception, to Seaside Day for Year 1 and an awe inspiring trip to the Maidenhead Synagogue for Year 2. All of these experiences were funded by money raised by the PFA. Thank you so much to everyone who made these opportunities for our children possible.

We have survived the heat this week and at times the sun has been blistering, so we have kept the children inside at times to protect them from long periods of exposure to the sun. We have followed the DFE's guidance as given in the Heatwave plan for England when needed and will continue to do so. Please ensure that your children are protected with freshly applied sun cream when they come into school on Monday and if possible, make sure that it is long-lasting cream. If this is not possible, we will happily apply sun cream at lunchtime on Monday, but only that supplied for your child by you.  Any sun cream sent in must be clearly named.

Enjoy the weekend and I hope that you manage to stay cool.

Potatoes in Reception

At Sandygate each year group has a raised bed within school in which they can grow fruit and vegetables. Earlier in the school year the children in Reception planted seed potatoes in their bed. All year they have been growing underground but the  children  have not been able to see them until they were dug them up this week. This afternoon the children got to taste their potatoes and some of the words they used to describe them were 'Yummy', 'Delicious', 'Fantastic', Amazing' and 'Tucktastic' . You can see from the pictures below that they really enjoyed eating them.

End of Year Service Tuesday 19th July

On the last day of term we will be holding our Leaver's Service at 9am. The Service is planned to take place outside and is our opportunity to celebrate the learning journey our Year 2 children have been on and say goodbye to them.

If you are intending to come to this you do need to register on Eventbrite.  Entry will be by Eventbrite ticket only and at this moment we only have about half our Year 2 families registered. We would not want to need to turn people away on the day from this very special service.

Please sign up  at    https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/leavers-service-2022-tickets-377918513447

End of Term Tuesday 19th July 1.15pm

A reminder that school finishes at 1.15pm on the last day of term. The children will have lunch before they leave so please remember to order school lunch if they require it

General News and Reminders

School Reports

All school reports for 2021/22 were emailed to parents on Monday - if you have not received your child's report please let the school office know.

We would be very grateful if all parents could acknowledge receipt of their child's report using the google form before the end of term. You can access the form here https://forms.gle/WFurhD9PgGYCFQW46

Books

The children will be bringing home their exercise books today to show you the work they have been doing in school this year.

We have to keep a small selection of books in school until the end of the first half term in the autumn and we have emailed the parents of those children to inform them.

Legacy Books

Thank you to all of you who have donated a legacy book (or more than one) in memory of your child's time at our school. We have labelled these up to show who they were donated by and they will really help with our Core Read Aloud programme and to instil a love of reading in our pupils in the future.

There is still time to purchase a book from our wishlist which can be found here:

Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award

We are really pleased that every child at our school has completed this award and they are bringing home their certificates today. The award is designed to empower young people to change the world by teaching them leadership, resilience and to care for others in their community.

Some of the children are shown below with their certificates.

PFA News

Camp Night

British Summertime has arrived and I think we all made the most of the wonderful weather at the weekend for camping.  It was such an amazing evening and the PFA would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone that came along.  I think children and adults alike had a great time and it was so much more than a fundraiser, it really did feel like a big school family on the field.   The children will be talking about the fun they had for many months I am sure.

Ice Pops

We will be selling ice pops at pick up on the final day of term for a small donation.  As the temperature is set to soar early next week we anticipate the children, and maybe the adults, will be in need of something cold at the end of the school term.

Fundraising

Sandygate would not be the amazing school it is without the support of all of our school families.  The PFA would like to say thank you for the generosity you have shown to the team and the school this year.  Below is a poster detailing how much money we have donated to school and how those funds were spent.  We hope you agree our children really do benefit from all the hard work and generosity.

AGM

What a lovely evening for our final PFA meeting which was our AGM. Thank you to everyone who came along.

We said our heartfelt thank yous and goodbyes to the amazing Leanne and Sophie for all their wonderful work over the past years and presented them each with a card and gift as a token of our appreciation.  We hope they'll come back and see us at our fundraising events - where they can just attend and not have to organise it or sort floats or clear up :-)

Please see attached minutes of the AGM and the exciting news that we have a FULL TEAM for 2022.

  • Chair - Rachel Bourdillon
  • Vice-Chair - Libz Dorsett
  • Co-Treasurers - Caroline Robinson & Lauren King
  • Secretary - Johanna Snell

A couple of DATES for our DIARY for SEPTEMBER 2022....

- Thursday 22nd September @ 8pm FIRST PFA MEETING - Come along and meet the new team and hear the ideas for the term ahead.  We will be asking for Class Reps too.

- Saturday 24th September BACK TO SCHOOL BBQ - come along to the school field for a family BBQ.

Thank you everyone for all your support and help with various school events and for being involved/interested in raising funds for our lovely school.

A huge thank you to all the Yr 2 parents who will be moving on from Sandygate to new schools.

Have a wonderful summer!
