1st April 2021

In school this week

It has been such delightful last week to the term and the sun has really shined on us! The Easter Service on Tuesday and Easter Parade yesterday, gave us all a feeling of hope for a gradual return to 'normality'. To see the whole school together was a blessing and the children were so excited.

On Tuesday, the Year 2 Worship Leaders were wonderful and took their responsibilities very seriously. One said afterwards, 'I was nervous at the start. At the end, I was proud of myself.' It was such a special service and all the Worship Leaders should be proud of themselves as they adapted so quickly to their role.

It was lovely to see all the Easter hats, gardens and baskets on Wednesday and sharing the creativity and colours outside in the sunshine was a great 'thankfulness' moment.

The support we have had from our parents and carers has continued to bolster us through this unusual and long term - another thing to be thankful for.  I know Easter has probably come quickly for those of you who had the children at home for Remote Learning but I hope that you are able to plan some family activities over the holidays and have an enjoyable break.

You will see below links for the All Saints Easter services below and a few ideas for different holiday activities. I will be looking out for those of you who are joining in with the PFA Easter trail too.

The PFA committee has been continuing to fundraise over the term and have, so far this academic year, raised a massive £20, 000. The Easter trail, Sandygate Cookery Book, half term virtual discos and donut day have been this term's major activities and have contributed to this sum. We will be outlining what the money is being spent at the beginning of the Summer term. Thank you everyone for your contributions to this total.

Have a restful and healthy Easter holiday.

Year 1 Java Topic

Although Aris was not able to come in to school as usual to share his knowledge of Indonesian culture and music, he did record some video lessons for the children in which he shared some traditional tales, played some Indonesian music and showed the children how to make shadow puppets.

The children then made their own shadow puppets which they used to retell the Indonesian story 'Mangoes and Bananans'. There are some photos below and we will post some videos of the puppet shows on the class homepages after Easter.

Report from Eco Warriors

Wild Marlow are launching a Much Wilder Marlow campaign to create a local nature corridor.

We are honoured to announce that we have now have two Wild Marlow ambassadors at Marlow C of E Infant School . Freddie from Year 2 and Annabelle from Year 1 are pictured below with the Wild Marlow blue heart, recently awarded to the school for our nature corridor around the playing field and our commitment to enhancing biodiversity in our grounds.

Verity West from Wild Marlow says, "We are really looking forward to working with the children, it is so important to involve them in all aspects of nature both through their curriculum activities and playtime".

These newly appointed ambassadors show a particular interest in the natural world and are enthusiastic about their new appointment. Freddie and Annabelle will work with Wild Marlow to help the school and community engage even more with the natural world and what can be done locally to regenerate it.

Wild Marlow are launching their campaign with a wildlife trail over the Easter holidays and details of this are shown below.

Clubs

We can now confirm some additional clubs for the summer term including First Soccer who will start with Year 2. Hopefully as the term goes on and we review risk assessments we can then offer this to other year groups.

First Soccer

To book for First Soccer sessions on a Wednesday lunchtime please go to https://firstsoccer.class4kids.co.uk/info/125 . Children will not need studs or football kit for these sessions, they will take part in their school uniform but can bring a pair of trainers in should they wish.

Multi-sports returns after Easter but I am afraid that there are currently no spaces for Year 1 as the children who had booked for this term have been offered the places first. There are a few spaces on the Year 1 club which can be booked here

Scrumys have places for both Year 1 and Year 2. This is a fun club to introduce sport to young children focussing on non-contact, tag rugby. Book here

Youth Moves returns for Year 2 before school on a Tuesday from 8am. Details on the attached flyer.

Sandygate Stars will be running on Thursday lunchtime for Year 2. There will be limited places and you can register here  via the form on your child's class homepage.

Wild Marlow Wildlife Trail

Much Wilder Marlow (MWM) is a new campaign by Wild Marlow, launching soon to engage the community in collectively building a nature corridor through our town, supporting wildlife and enhancing biodiversity. The campaign will be fully launched at the end of April but the build-up includes a fun wildlife poster trail for families to do over the Easter break,  where the children can win a MWM badge and wildlife postcard! Get the map at https://www.wildmarlow.org.uk/wilder_marlow.php and have fun!

The Great British Children's Challenge

Mrs Downing, our PE subject leader, wanted to share the following link which has lots of great activities you might like to do over the Easter holidays.

https://www.thegreatbritishchildrenschallenge.co.uk/

Walk Once a Week

We are continuing with the Walk Once a Week (WOW) scheme so all children are asked to record their journey to school each morning. Over the month of March, since we returned on 8th March, we have recorded 2,689 active journeys - which represents 92% of our school journeys. 150 children earned their WOW badges which were given out yesterday.

The modes of transport used this month for our journeys to school were:

  • 60% Walk
  • 15% Park & Stride
  • 13% Scooter
  • 4% Cycle
  • 8% Car

A message for parents/carers about the COVID-19 vaccine from Buckinghamshire Council’s Public Health team

There are lots of questions about the COVID-19 vaccine so we are sharing information about where you can find out more, especially about how safe and effective the current vaccines are.

At the moment the following people can get a COVID-19 vaccine and you should contact your GP to get an appointment if you are in one of the following groups:

  • Anyone who is aged 50 and over
  • People who work in health and social care
  • People who live or work in a care home
  • Anyone who is the main carer for someone at high risk from COVID-19
  • People with a learning disability
  • People with medical conditions meaning they’re more at risk from COVID-19

All schools are in close contact with Buckinghamshire Councils’ Public Health team. The team wants people to be aware of the following facts about the COVID-19 vaccine:

  • The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and offers the best possible protection against COVID-19, which carries significant health risks
  • Both vaccines currently in use in the UK have been through rigorous safety checks – the same as all other vaccines and medicines approved for use in the UK
  • Adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine are extremely rare. Tens of millions of UK citizens have now had a vaccine dose and there is no evidence to suggest any link to blood clots or any other serious health condition
  • The World Health Organisation advocates the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, as does the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which has said there was ‘no indication’ the jab causes blood clots
  • Sometimes you might see false claims about vaccine safety on social media. Please make sure that any information you read about vaccines is from a reliable source such as the NHS website
  • If you need any further reassurance then please read the latest response from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which approves all medicines for use in the UK, including the COVID-19 vaccine. You can also read more about the COVID-19 vaccine on the NHS website.

Please do take up the offer of your vaccine when it’s your turn, as the risks presented by COVID-19 are far greater than that of any vaccine.
