Marlow Church of England Infant School

Governors

“provide all children with the opportunity to develop towards their full potential”

About Us

The Governing Body is an active and enthusiastic group who are committed to ensuring that Marlow Church of England Infant School remains an outstanding Church of England school. Working closely with the Headteacher and Senior Management Team, the governors are responsible for the overall strategic management of the school and for determining its aims, objectives and policies in accordance with all relevant legislation.

Over the past few years, governors have been actively involved in essential projects including the changes to home learning policy, the building of the new outdoor covered area, new innovative approaches to teaching including Jasmine PE.

All of our governors have no governance roles in other educational institutions and have no business or financial interests in the school.

The minutes from the Governing Body meetings are a public record and can be accessed via the School Office if required.

Who are we?

As volunteers, governors come from a variety of backgrounds, and represent a diverse range of local interests and bodies. As a church school, the constitution of the governing body is currently as follows:

  • 8 Foundation governors, appointed by the Diocese of Oxford. This includes a member of the clergy from All Saints Church, Marlow, as an ex-officio member
  • 2 Parent governors, elected by the parent body
  • 2 Staff governors (including the Headteacher)
  • 1 Local Education Authority representative
  • Associate members, co-opted by the governing body

As a governing body we divide the responsibilities into three committees:

  • Finance and People
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Admissions and Promotion

I have been brought up and lived in Marlow since 1977, attending Little Marlow and Great Marlow schools. I live with my partner Natalie and our two girls. My eldest daughter is now in Year 2 at Marlow C of E Infant School. I’m on the Teaching & Learning committee and am responsible for monitoring the PE curriculum at the school.

I have a bachelors degree in Sports Therapy and run a sports injury clinic in the Town; I also used to teach at Amersham & Wycombe college. For 15 years I was heavily involved with Marlow Football Club as club ‘physio’ before family life took priority. In my spare time I'm trying to get back in the habit of running and have been involved in local politics for the last year or so.

Before children, I taught in the primary sector for 9 years where I was in charge of English, PSHE and introduced Emotional Literacy and Values Education to schools. Mrs Emily Viarnaud - SEN, Nurture, Governor Communications

Mrs Emily Viarnaud

Parent Governor

With 3 children; Giulia, Luca and Nico, I am really passionate about their education and have a long term interest in seeing the school succeed.

As a child I attended primary school in Germany followed by a boarding school and a comprehensive in the UK, which has given me a broad personal experience of education.I have made a career out of process improvement and cultural change across a range of industries; this involves working with people to analyse and fix issues to make their day to day work more effective.

I spend a lot of time training and coaching people on how to analyse and use data, how to work together as a team and how to manage successfully.

Hopefully these skills would help me contribute and support the school as a governor.

Mrs Caroline Ridges

Local Authority Governor

Living in Marlow with my husband and my two girls, the older of which has started at Marlow C of E Infant School this year, has led me down this exciting path to becoming a Governor. Before children, I worked in Marketing for 10 years for a pen company (focusing on handwriting products) which started my passion for education and understanding how we can help prepare children for the challenges ahead of them. I am really interested in Mindfulness and the positive affects this can have on children. In my spare time, I love to be outdoors – running, walking, skiing and riding.
