In school this week

History Day today has been a great success, and it was a thrill to see so many historical figures arriving at school today. Families have really gone to town and entered to the spirit of the day. The creating of items to be buried in time capsules in the school grounds has caused great excitement as well as the different history activities in each year group. Thank you to Mr Creese (otherwise known as Henry VIII today) for organising this enrichment.

You may have noticed that we have been a little short-staffed of late. We have been struggling with staff illness, but I am so proud of how the team have pulled together to ensure the children continue to have a quality education in school. There have been moments when I thought we may have to move to remote learning for some classes but so far we have managed to avoid this. We still have a week to go of the term and I always appreciate how supportive our parent body are but your continued understanding and prayers for the return to good health for the team are definitely needed.

We are looking forward to our Easter Service at All Saints on Thursday afternoon next week and I do hope that you can join us there. The Year 2 worship leaders have been busy planning and practising. We will need volunteers to walk down with us and we are asking parents and carers to sign up if they are attending. Please see the article below for details.

Wishing you a restful weekend.

Report from School Council/RRSA/Eco Warriors/Arts Council

The School Council led worship this week and shared the new school prayer which they have been working on. The School Council were asked by Mrs Reynolds to create a new school prayer and in doing so the thought about

  • what the school means to you
  • as a school who do need to say thank you too
  • what is important to you and the school.

The prayer they have created is:

Dear God,

Thank you for our friends and families.

Thank you for the school and everyone in it.

Thank you for the outdoor areas and our classrooms.

Please help us to show understanding and respect for each other and we ask, that you help us to persevere with our learning.

Thank you for filling us with kindness, so we can share it with others.

Please help us to forgive others even when it is tricky.

Thank you for our school values, so that we can share them around the world.

Amen.

School Lunches

Can we please ask parents to cancel lunches if your child is absent from school for any reason. We are charged for meals ordered and not taken.

Also, please do not order a lunch for a day when your child is on a school trip. Packed lunches from Dolce are ordered separately from the SchoolGrid system.

Footsteps Training

It is an alarming fact that in 2020 around 7,000 pedestrians were killed in Great Britain and around 1,500 of those were children aged between 0 and 15 years. As a school we have tried to reduce this over the years by teaching Road Safety to our children through a programme called Footsteps.

Footsteps is a practical pedestrian training scheme aimed at children aged between 4 and 7.  It involves taking the children to the roadside and teaching them how to behave around traffic, what to look for, how to find safe places to cross the road and how to cross roads safely.

This programme had been delivered to children in Year 2 for many years up until 2020 when the pandemic hit. We would like to start delivering the programme again this year but in order to do so we need some parents to volunteer as Footsteps Trainers.

To be a Footsteps Trainer you will not need to commit much of your time. Afteran initial training session (online) which will take about an hour and a half you will then be involved in training the children once a week for 1 hour. In total you should only have to come into school 5 or 6 times during the summer term - obviously the more volunteers we have the less time it will take for each of you.

If you are interested in finding out more about being a Footsteps Trainer then please register here  https://forms.gle/GN2kusmnMo5dRhjy6 and then we will contact you to explain in more detail and let you know when the training will take place.

We are still collecting items to be taken to URC Christchurch for delivery to Poland to support Ukrainian Refugees. The updated list is:

  • Long-life food (tinned meat, instant soups/food, pasta, rice, biscuits, sweets for children)
  • Blankets (new or washed) - these will be sent straight to Ukraine for soldiers
  • Batteries, torches, candles (when they have no electricity in Ukraine they use candles)
  • Thermos flasks - small ones for soldiers that they can quickly grab and go)
  • First Aid Kits - bandages, plasters etc
  • Toiletries for women and children (toothpaste & brushes, shampoo, soap etc)
  • Nappies- size 5 but all sizes are good, wet wipes, formula milk, new bottles for babies, long life food for babies
  • Cleaning products eg washing up liquid, washing powder
  • New children's and ladies socks

A very special well done to Jasper in Year 2 who helped his mum and sisters last weekend running a bake and toy sale. They raised over £1,700 for the Ukrainian Appeal. Well done Jasper!

Showcasing the winning entries of the Chiltern Arts Colouring and Poetry competitions, the Fairy and Poetry Trail features ten fairies paired with magic-themed poetry appearing in windows along high streets. All ten fairies appear in all of the locations mentioned above, and you can download a Fairy Checklist and Quiz at chilternarts.com/fairy-trail-quiz. Why not take the kids out and see how many you can spot this Easter?
