Friday 12th November

In school this week

Our Remembrance Service in school yesterday was such a special time for children and adults alike. The children's singing and how well they demonstrated their understanding of why we have Remembrance day was impressive. The Year 2 children recited 'In Flanders Fields' by John McCrae. Their confidence and respect was wonderful, and the whole experience was very moving!

The children have been continuing to enjoy their outside learning this week and their seems to have been a lot of maths being learned outside this week.  From comparing addition and subtraction number sentences, to identifying 2D shapes and learning how to use a number line.

Next week, we are looking forward to welcoming Year 1 parents to the curriculum session. If you haven't signed up, there is still time. There is a link in the article below.

Finally, we are starting to prepare for our Christmas Celebrations and next week there will be two Newsletters; the normal weekly Sandygate News and a Christmas Special with all the information and dates you need.

Report from Eco Warriors

This week we started Switch it off Fortnight to help us save electricity. The things we need to remember to do are

  • turn off lights when we go out of a room and remind our family to turn off lights.
  • switch off things that use electricity like washing machines, radiators and dishwashers
  • if we see a room with nobody in it and the lights are on switch them off.
  • switch off things when we finish with them like computers and i-pads and phones and remind our mums and dads because sometimes they forget.

Next Week's 'Learning at a Glance'

Walk to School Week 15th - 19th November

Our School Travel Planning Group are pleased to announce that we will be running a Walk to School week next week 15th - 19th November. We would love to see as many children as possible walk, scoot or cycle to school or for those who need to drive, aim for park and stride.
In school, we will focus on the sustainability benefits of walking, highlighting how local actions can have positive global impacts. We will help pupils understand how walking, scooting or cycling to school, instead of being driven, is helping to fight climate change through lower vehicle emissions, protecting wildlife and natural habitats for the future.

Friday 19th November - Safety Day

To end Walk to School Week, we are holding a Safety Day on Friday when every child will have a 45 minute 'Scootability' scooter training session and also a First Aid session. We are very grateful to Mrs Burns who has very kindly given up her time to come and run the First Aid sessions with the children.

Could all children please come to school in trainers on Friday for the Scootability sessions.

Anti Bullying Week & Odd Socks Day Thursday 18th November

Next week is Anti-Bullying week and the Rights Respecting Ambassadors will be leading school worship to talk about the issue of bullying. The theme for Anti Bullying Week this year is 'One Kind Word'

Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation of the last year has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us. This is one of the reasons, that ‘One Kind Word’ has been chosen as the theme

Following the success of the campaign in 2020 the Anti-Bullying Alliance (which coordinates the campaign each year in England and Wales) asked over 400 young people, teachers, and parents, what they wanted from this year’s Anti-Bullying Week. Again and again, the young and not-so-young told us they wanted anti-bullying work to be about hope and the positive and kind things we can do to halt hurtful behaviour in its tracks.

Odd Socks Day is organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance as part of Anti-Bullying week. It is a way of celebrating what makes us all different and unique. All you have to do is wear odd socks to school on that day!

Year 1 Curriculum Information Evening

Wednesday 17th November 7 - 9 pm

Thank you to all parents who have already registered for this evening. If you would like to come but have yet to register please could you do so here

https://forms.gle/pRaACzsUvBSDjDf56

The aim of these evenings is to give parents information on the curriculum expectations for their child's year group and also to help you in supporting your child's learning at home.

General News and Reminders

Tissues Please

As we are entering the season of coughs and colds we would be very grateful if every family could send in a box of tissues to be kept in the classroom. This will ensure there are always tissues available for your child without having to remember to send them in each day in their bag.

Nativity Plays

Don't forget to register for your tickets for the Nativity Plays on Eventbrite-

Reception - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/reception-nativity-play-a-wriggly-nativity-tickets-203701435477

Help Needed with Filming

We have always given parents the opportunity to purchase a DVD of the Nativity Plays to keep for posterity or share with grandparents and family members unable to attend.

In previous years we have been very lucky to have parents with the technical ability and equipment to produce a very 'professional' recording. Is there a parent/grandparent/family friend who has some experience in this field and would be available to record the plays and edit them into a file to be copied onto a DVD?

If you think you, or someone you know, could help please contact the school office.

Advent Service 1st December

We are hoping to invite parents to our Advent Service at All Saints Church but we are waiting to hear from them on their COVID Risk Assessment. Once we know the full details we will communicate these two parents. Hopefully this will be next week when we will be sending our Christmas Special Newsletter.

We will need parents to walk with us to the church on the 1st and a link to sign up for this will be in the Christmas Newsletter.

Sandygate & Minims Concert

Saturday 11th December

On the 11th December children from Year 1 & 2 at Sandygate are invited to take part in a concert with the Marlow Town Band Training Band - the Minims.

The concert will be at Marlow Methodist Church at 2.30pm and will last around an hour.

They will not be selling tickets but donations on the door would be appreciated and any monies will be shared between the school and Marlow Town Band.

If your child(ren) would like to to take part in the concert could you please register here before Wednesday 17th November so that Mrs Phillips can organise rehearsals for them.
