Christmas Special

We are very much looking forward to celebrating Christmas in school this year and we have put together all the information you should need for the events coming up over the Festive Period in School. Please read through carefully and make a note of the dates.

This is an additional Newsletter and you will receive the usual Weekly Newsletter later today.

We have prepared a Christmas Countdown Calendar which starts tomorrow and covers the school events and activities until the end of term. The Countdown Calendar is below and there is a link so that you can view it more clearly.  A paper copy is being sent home today with each child so that you can pin it up somewhere at home as a reminder of all our events and add your own special events to it as well.

Charitable Giving

The school values we have been thinking about this term are Kindness and Respect and the School Council have been talking about how we can show these values over the Christmas period.

They have decided that they would like to take a retiring collection at the Nativity Performances in aid of three charities - Wycombe Homeless Connection, The Children's Society, The Red Cross and they would also like to 'twin' our school toilets with a toilet block in Africa.  They are also supporting Save the Children with a Christmas Jumper Day.

The Red Cross Kindness Advent Calendar will be coming home next Friday and there are more details about this below.

One Can Christmas Appeal

We are once more supporting the One Can Trust this Christmas with their Christmas Appeal.

The One Can trust will be making up Christmas Hampers for their clients with some extra treats alongside the usual everyday items. If you would like to donate some items the list is shown below and these should be brought into school on Wednesday 1st December to ensure we can get them over to One Can by 3rd December.

End of Term Friday 17th December

Pick-up for all children is 1.15 pm on the last day of term.

Children will need to bring their lunchbox or order a Dolce lunch on this day as they will have lunch before they leave. Bookbags will not be needed.

We would ask that you send in a strong, named carrier bag on Monday 13th December for the children to bring home any work and Christmas crafts that they have produced during the term/

The Snowman and The Snowdog Advent Kindness Calendar

We are sending home next Friday 26th November an Advent 'Snowman and the Snowdog Kindness Calendar' for each child. We will also upload a Kindness Calendar workbook to Google Classroom/Tapestry on that afternoon and you can download and print this out if you wish.

You can use the Kindness Calendar throughout December to record any kind acts that you carry out. When you complete a kind act colour in the snowflake for that day.  You could also record a diary of your kind acts. There are some ideas in the pack for kind acts but see if you can think of some others yourself. Anyone who brings in a calendar before the end of term with at least 10 acts of kindness will get a certificate.

Advent Service at All Saints Church

Wednesday 1st December 2pm

We will be celebrating the beginning of this important religious season with an Advent Service at All Saints Church.

The Year 2 Worship Leaders will be leading us in a service of prayers and songs to mark the start of Advent. Our whole school community - parents, relatives and friends - are invited to join us for the service which will begin at 2pm and last around 30 minutes.

We do have to adhere to the Church Risk Assessment, the main points of which are given below, and this includes a limit on the number of people in church. If you would like to come to this service we would, therefore, ask that you register before the event here so that we can ensure we keep within their limits.

The children will be walking down to the church at around 1.30pm and then returning to school for pick-up at 3.15 pm as normal and we will need some parents to walk with us. You will need to be able to walk down to church and back to school afterwards and, unfortunately, you cannot walk with us if you have other children with you. You are very welcome to come along with younger siblings and meet us at the church for the service however. If you can walk with us then please note this on the form.

To register to attend or to walk to church with us  please click here

Christmas Mufti Day Thursday 2nd December

On the 2nd December children can wear their own clothes to school in return for bringing in an item for some of our Christmas events including the Big Sing. The items for each year group to bring are:

Reception - mince pies or cakes to serve at the Big Sing

Year 1 - wrapping paper

Year 2 - chocolates or bath items etc for raffle prizes for Big Sing

Christmas Jumper Day

Friday 10th December

The School Council would like to support Save the Children by inviting everyone in school to take part in Christmas Jumper Day. Children are invited to decorate an everyday jumper, or their school jumper; rescue an old Christmas jumper or even knit one if you have the skills.

The School Council are asking for a suggested donation of £1 which should be donated via our School Christmas Jumper Day JustGiving page https://christmas.savethechildren.org.uk/fundraising/cjd210008118

Big Sing 2pm15th December

We have held the Big Sing for many years but unfortunately it was unable to take place last year.

We will be inviting a number of residents from local retirement homes to come in to school to enjoy a drink and a mince pie and listen to the children singing some Christmas songs. Each year group will come in turn to entertain them and there will be a small raffle. Any money raised will be given to our nominated charities for this year.

If you have any older family members or neighbours who you think would enjoy this then please let us know. Places will be limited to keep everyone safe so anyone who would like to come will need to register before. Please email the school office to let us know.

Christmas Dinner & Parties

Thursday 16th December

On Thursday 16th December, Dolce will be serving a Christmas Dinner at lunchtime. If your child wishes to have Christmas Dinner in school then this should be preordered as soon as possible so that Dolce can place their orders. This is available to book on SchoolGrid now with the choice of turkey or roast vegetable & stuffing tart.  The last date for ordering Christmas Dinner is Friday 3rd December to allow Dolce time to order ingredients.

If your child does not want the Christmas Dinner then please send a packed lunch in as usual.

In the morning the children in Reception will have their Christmas party with games and activities and then will have their Christmas Lunch. The children in KS1 will have their party games in the afternoon.

On this day children can wear party clothes but please ensure they have suitable footwear for playing outside at break and lunchtime.

Sandygate Christingle Friday 17th December

On the 17th the children will have a special Christmas assembly at which they will each receive a Christingle. Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, the Christingle service is for invited guests only and is not open to all parents.

At the end of next week we will be sending home Christingle candle collection boxes. We would be grateful if you could collect any loose change you may have in these and then return them to school by 13th December. The money will be donated to the Children's Society.
