In school this week

Such a lot has happened since last week!

On Saturday, despite the rain, the Circus bought a little colour to our weekends. It was a great day and everybody worked so hard to make it such a success!  Thank you to all the PFA committee and the parents that put everything together and ended up getting very soggy by the end of the day. The amount of money raised to put towards our outside classroom for Year 1 was incredible (see the article below) and I would like to thank everyone for the generosity. Apart from the Circus being a fundraising opportunity, it was principally a lovely way for the Sandygate 'family' to spend time together after such a long time.

Other highlights this week have been the Year 2 Roman Day and Harvest Festival.

There are more details and photos about all of these school events on the website under Latest News. If you download the e4education app you will get notification of news stories as they are created.

Harvest was a wonderful celebration of Thankfulness which both adults and children enjoyed. The children sang so beautiful and the poetry that the children shared was amazing. We are planning to hold an Advent Service at All Saints on 1st December and there will be an opportunity for parents to come and join us - so please put this in your calendars!

Eco Warriors

At Marlow C of E Infant School we are very proud of our environmental work in our school and in the local environment. We were awarded our first Green Flag in recognition of this in 2009 and last November we gained our 5th Green Flag.

Our Eco Warriors this term who will be working on the issues that are important to them are:

  • Ladybird - Woody & Megan
  • Butterfly - Daisy G & George H
  • Grasshopper - Jasper & Lotte
  • Dragonfly - Luca & Sophia

The Eco Warriors over the past few years have developed an Eco Code for the school,  led the school in recycling drives and waste weeks and worked to make our school more sustainable.

They work with Wild Marlow and Marlow Town Council to drive initiatives in the town and as a school we are committed to working on the UN Sustainable Development Goals which you can find here

There is more on the Eco Warriors and our work as an Eco School on our website here

General News and Reminders

Parent Helper Training 19th & 21st October

We are planning to welcome back parents to help out in school after the October half-term. We usually ask that parents commit to a regular day and time to come in and help for around an hour and a half and the tasks they undertake include listening to children read, preparing resources, working on classroom display boards or helping with art activities.

If you wish to come into school to help on a regular basis then you will need to attend a parent helper training session and we will be holding two of these on Tuesday 19th and Thursday 21st October at 9.30 am. The meetings will be online and we would ask that you register online and we will then send you a link for the Google Meet.

Any parents who have already registered should have received the invitation to the Google Meet so please check and let us know if you have not got this.

Wanted - toys for Reception

Reception would be grateful if anyone has any of the following which they no longer need and could donate to school:

  • Large floor puzzles
  • Any Orchard Games
  • Plastic bodied baby dolls with clothes - our children love taking the babies for walks in the pushchairs but we currently only have two dolls and they are looking a bit bashed!

Wanted - tights & socks

If you have any tights or socks that your child has outgrown, or would like to buy a few pairs for us, we are very short of them in school. At this time of year children often get wet feet and have to change or girls fall over and damage their tights and so it is useful for us to have some in school for them to use.

If your child comes home in any spare clothes from school we would appreciate if you could launder them and return them to us as soon as possible.

PFA News

Wow what a weekend we had! Thank you for your support with both the circus and bag2school. The rain didn’t stop you, and we appreciate the support. The circus raised in excess of £2000 which is a phenomenal amount of money for school and given the weather a great profit. It is all going towards funding the outdoor classroom school are keen to build for the Year 1 area. Bag2school raised £120 which again really is incredible. Thank you for your generosity.

We still have a way to go to reach the £15000 target and have some ideas we will share over the next few weeks.

Can you help?

We are now looking for a couple of volunteers to run the end of half term donut sale. This is a ver easy task only requiring an hour of your time and if you team up with a buddy then you can have coffee and chat whilst halving the time. Please see one of the team or email marlowcofepfa@gmail.com if you think you can help.

Copas Turkey Scheme

COPAS are offering free money to school in the form of a donation for every turkey bought from them.

At checkout you need to select PTA from the drop down box and find Marlow CofE Infant school.

This is a free and easy way for school to benefit and supports local business also - win/win.

If you would like to find out more about what the PFA does at school or are interested in helping with any fundraising idea or events please get in touch or join us for the next meeting which is scheduled for 4th November at 8pm
