1st October 2021

In school this week

I really enjoyed seeing so many red jumpers at All Saints ' church on Sunday. The Sandygate children sang so beautifully and it was a welcome return as a school to the church after so long not being able to go!

This week we have seen some real autumnal weather and the Year 1 children rose to the challenge of dealing with the cold by making some warming soup Their trip to the market was a great success and we are truly thankful for the generosity of the stall holders at Dean Street market for donating the vegetables for making soup.

Next week we will have a harvest theme in school - the displays are up in the hall and the children are practising harvest poems to share with the rest of the school during our harvest festival. The thankfulness chains that the children have bought in have added to the theme and will soon be adorning the hall as well.

In computing this half term the children have been learning all about online safety and there are details below of short online courses that parents can undertake to help them understand more how to protect their children when they are online. I do encourage you all to have a look and try out some of the courses.

Rights Respecting School (RRS) Ambassadors

Marlow C of E Infant School has been a UNICEF Rights Respecting School (RRS) since 2017 and in Summer 2021 we achieved the highest level of the RRS Award - Gold:Rights Respecting.

As a Rights Respecting School we have children's rights, as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, embedded throughout our school in our policies, practices and ethos. Everyone in our school is aware of those rights and they have a positive impact on teaching and learning.

We have a council of Rights Respecting Ambassadors which is led by Mrs Howarth. They meet regularly and discuss ways in which we can improve the rights of children both in our school, our community and the wider world. In the past the RRS Ambassadors have led school worship to explain some of the rights, to talk about bullying and have helped organise a Parliament week.

The RRS Ambassadors this year are:

  • Ladybird - Kitty & Jack M
  • Butterfly - Amber & Samuel
  • Grasshopper - Poppy & Zach
  • Dragonfly - Gracie & Annabelle

Year 2: Roman Day Tuesday 5th October

Year 2 will be spending the day as Romans on Tuesday - they will be making mosaics and pizza amongst other activities. We would love the children to come dressed in Roman costume and there were lots of ideas in last week's Newsletter.

National Poetry Day Thursday 7th October

We will be marking National Poetry Day next week by sharing poems in class throughout the week.

We are hoping to increase the choice of poetry books we have available in school and have a wishlist of books on Amazon if anyone would like to purchase one for the school.

Harvest Festival Thursday 7th October

We will be holding our Harvest Festival in school next Friday, unfortunately we are not inviting parents for this service and so it will just be in school worship for the children.

We are collecting once again for One Can Trust for our Harvest and so would like each child to bring one can/packet in next week by Thursday morning and we will display these during worship. If you are able to help us transport the donated items to One Can Trust in High Wycombe on Thursday after worship then please let the school office know.

Here is a message from One Can Trust and below a list of their particular wants and needs at present :

Since 2011, One Can Trust has operated a foodbank based in High Wycombe, serving the town and South Buckinghamshire – up to Princes Risborough and out to Beaconsfield.

We are currently preparing for Harvest and this is where we ask local churches, groups and individuals to consider donating their Harvest collections to us so we can distribute them to our clients around the local area. We find this is a busy time and it ensures that we can stock our shelves and prepare for the lead up to Christmas and the winter months.

See below a link to a video message from our Interim Operation Manager, Jo Belshaw, who will show you around our warehouse.

A photographer from the Maidenhead Advertiser was in school this week to take photographs of the Ant and Bee classes for their 'My First Class' feature. This will be published on 14th October.

National Online Safety

As we mentioned a few weeks ago we are taking part in the National Online Safety certification programme. As part of this there is a parent course available which we would encourage everyone to complete. The link for this is

https://nationalonlinesafety.com/enrol/marlow-c-of-e-infant-school

The course is a series of short webinars (around 4 minutes each) presented by Myleene Klass on topics such as Online Gaming and Mental Health & Wellbeing.

You can also access #WakeUpWednesday via the free app which you can download from your app store, search for National Online Safety, details here https://info.nationalonlinesafety.com/mobile-app. The app provides great tips on how to check if children are playing online games such as Roblox safely.

School Photographs

The school photograph proofs are now available online with our school photographer, Stanley Baker. If you did not receive a QR code or did not register when they were taken last week then your child will be bringing home details today on how to access the photographs.

School lunches change to ingredients

Due to supply issues, Dolce have changed the brand of jelly being supplied to our school. The jelly they are now serving contains beef gelatine. If your child should not be served this jelly for any reason please contact the school office so that we can ensure they are offered an alternative pudding.

Dragonfly Class - jumpers & hoodies

If anyone from Dragonfly class has lost a jumper, cardigan or hoody please come in to the office to check as we have a box of un-named items from that classroom.

Junk Modelling

We would be grateful for some 'junk modelling' items. In particular, reception would like kitchen or toilet paper cardboard rolls for an activity they have planned next week.

We would also love any small packaging boxes but please do not send anything that had products in it that contained nuts.

There will be a collection box at the front of school next week or hand items to your class teacher in the morning.
