I have really enjoyed seeing the children so settled and engaged in their learning this week. I have had the opportunity to spend some 'quality' time in Reception and KS1 this week, and I was so pleased to see the children in every class involved in discussions and focused tasks to deepen their understanding of the subjects they were covering.
In school worship, this half-term, we have been learning about our school value of Perseverance and as we approach the last week of the half-term, the children are able to talk about and demonstrate perseverance. It would be fascinating to know if they have talked about perseverance at home. Next half-term we will be looking at the school value of Service and there are some exciting projects that we are planning to ensure that the children will gain hands on understanding of what service means.
Next Friday, I will be taking the day off, and it will not be me writing this message in the Newsletter. Miss Imogen Gill from Dragonfly Class will be the Headteacher for the Day. I am sure that she will love her new-found responsibilities!

Report from School Council
Next week (weather permitting) our newly resurfaced playground will be painted with a selection of games that have been chosen by the school council.
This project started as a result of a vote that all children took part in during Parliament Week when they voted for new playground paints on the small playground and a new piece of equipment on the large playground.
The school council then surveyed the large playground to see what painted designs we already had and spent some time looking at the designs that were available before they made their choice of - noughts & crosses, snakes & ladders, a ball throw game, a cat and mouse maze, a map of the UK and a compass rose.
The small playground is now going to be called 'The Games Playground', a name chosen by the children.

Year 1 Seaside Day - Monday 24th May
On Monday we will be having a visit from History Off the Page who will be spending the day transporting Year 1 back in time to the Victorian Seaside.
To help us get the feel of the day, we are asking the children to dress in a simple costume. We recommend suitable seaside clothing (no swimming costumes/trunks, please) or Victorian clothing. The children will have playtime and lunch as normal, so they will need to be warm enough to play outside.

Help needed with sewing
Are you able to help us with some easy sewing? We have some cushions, used in the outside area in Reception, which are in need of new covers. We have fabric and just need some helpers with the skills to make some new covers for us. If you are able to help please email the school office to let us know.

Wanted - dictaphone or similar
We are in need of a few dictaphones or similar recording devices for use in class to help children with writing sentences. We need to be able to get the children to record them speaking their sentence and then play it back, pause and restart, as they write it down. If you have anything suitable please let us know or drop it in to the school office.
