In school this week

It's been another busy week in school. Dragonfly Class taught us about forgiveness in their class worship on Thursday, and we are looking forward to Grasshopper's Class worship next week, where we will learn more about the value of respect.

Mr Creese has been working on our new hall display, “Getting Carried Away with Words,” which celebrates the joy of language across our school. Pupils have shared brilliant vocabulary, creative sentences and thoughtful writing that show how words can spark imagination and confidence.

It’s been wonderful to see children stopping to read each other’s work and discovering new words they want to try themselves. This will continue over the term, so if you have any brilliant words to share, please do send them in with the children.

Wishing you all a happy weekend and I look forward to seeing some of you at 'Sandygate Sunday' at All Saints Church.

'Book Look' session

  • Date: Thursday 29th January

We would like to remind families that we will be holding another 'Book Look' session after school on Thursday. Parents/carers will be able to see what the children have been working on and how much progress they have made already this term.

Candlemas

  • Date: 9am on Tuesday 3rd February

We will have a special school worship to celebrate the feast of Candlemas on Tuesday 3rd February.

Candlemas is also known as the Feast of the Presentation of Christ and celebrates the presentation of Jesus at the temple, as described in Luke 2:22-40, and is one of the oldest festivals in the Christian church. In many countries, it marks the end of the Christmas festivities and is when decorations are taken down. It is called Candlemas as this was traditionally the day when all the church candles for the year were blessed.

We would like to invite parents/carers to attend. Due to the size of our hall, we are currently limiting tickets to 1 per family.

Scientist volunteers for Science Week

  • Dates: 23rd–27th February 2026

Do you have a spare hour or two between 23rd–27th February and have a professional background in science? We would love to hear from you!

Children love seeing their parents talking about what they are passionate about and Science Week gives them a great opportunity to become enthused about Science at school.

Spring term parent consultations

Parent consultation slots remain live for booking on our school website. We are holding these over two evenings between 4pm-7pm.

  • Wednesday 25th February
  • Thursday 26th February

To book, you will need to log onto our school website, then a 'Parents' Evening' button will appear at the very top left of your screen.

Appointments are 10 minutes long, and teachers will be sharing with parents/carers how their child is getting on at school, where they are in relation to the expected standards for this time of year, and some next steps for their learning.

You will have the opportunity to look through your child's books before or after your allocated session.

NSPCC Number Day

  • Date: Friday 6th February

We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day again this year. NSPCC are also celebrating 25 years!

The NSPCC need our support more than ever. By raising money, we can help to fund their vital services such as Childline – the helpline that’s always there for children and young people, whatever their problem or concern. On average, a child contacts Childline every 25 seconds.

Making maths meaningful

Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it.

  • We are taking on Buddy’s Key Challenge in our classes to help raise vital funds for the NSPCC. We are working to solve exciting maths puzzles in our classes, against the clock with Buddy, the Speak out. Stay safe mascot.
  • We are having a fun day of maths activities, and we will be taking part in Dress up for Digits. Pupils are asked to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt or even a onesie!). Or get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme. To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations, and we’d love everyone in the school to take part in this special event.

Safe fundraising

We’ve set up a Just Giving page here.

Please donate and share with friends, so we can support the NSPCC.

It all adds up

We’re really looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise will make an enormous difference to children today and help the NSPCC be there for children tomorrow.

Jewellery and Nail Polish

A polite reminder that jewellery and nail polish (including acrylic nails) are not permitted in school.

Earrings should be removed for school days. If they cannot be removed, they should be taped up before coming to school.

Thank you for your understanding with this.

Next half-term, Year 1 will be learning about Batik in their art lessons. We will be creating a final project where we will be using hot wax in the traditional way to produce Batik art. WOW! LEGO Masterbuilders Workshop

What an incredible display of creativity we saw yesterday at our LEGO®️ building workshop!

With 40 excited builders bringing a story to life — from a polar bear, snow sledges, igloos and houses — the creative hubbub in the room was truly brilliant to see.

We hope all our builders loved their session! This event sold out and even had a waiting list, but if you missed out this time, don’t panic — we’ll be aiming to run another Master Builder LEGO®️ workshop at a later date, so keep your eyes peeled!

PFA Social Media plea

Please follow our Facebook page linked here and our new Instagram page is linked here to follow everything PFA!

Your 'follow' will also help our visibility within the wider Marlow community, which we hope in turn may help our fundraising goals even further! A very easy way to support the school, which will hopefully, in time, boost our cause!
