7th November 2025

In school this week

Welcome back to the second half of the autumn term. As always, we have lots of learning planned for the children and this, coupled with the run-up to Christmas, the 6 weeks ahead of us are going to be busy.

The half-term has got off to a flying start already and the children are excited about their new topics. You will see details below about what learning will be taking place next week in all year groups.

Preparations for the Christmas season have also started this week with the Year 2 teachers holding auditions for the casting of many of the characters in the KS1 nativity, including Mary & Joseph. More details will be sent home next week. You will also see below that you can book your tickets for the Reception and KS1 nativities.

A plea from us all to make sure that our school neighbours are respected. Children should keep to the main paths when travelling to and from school. Please could parents and carers make sure that their children do not stray onto the paths and gardens of our neighbours on Sandygate Close and Sandygate Road.

General news & reminders

Baxter said, ' Our favourite book is Oi Puppies and I like the rhymes, ' while Oliver preferred the bit in the book where the cat and the frog didn't know what all the doggies were called. Aidan said, 'I like the cat. My brither likes the cat too.'

We hope you have enjoyed the book recommendations this half term.

Nativity Plays

This year the Reception children will be performing The Wriggly Nativity and Key Stage 1 children will be performing Born in the Barn.

Each play will be performed twice due to the limited capacity of the school hall. This means that parents & carers can book a maximum of 2 tickets for only one performance. (If you have a child in Reception and in KS1, you can book tickets for one of each of the Reception and KS1 performances)

Please only book 2 tickets if both parents/carers can attend the performance. This will allow every family to be able to attend their child's nativity.

The performances are as follows:

Reception children:

  • Reception Performance 1: Monday 15th December at 9.30am
  • Reception Performance 2: Tuesday 16th December at 2.30pm

Years 1 & 2 children:

  • KS1 Performance 1: Monday 15th December at 2pm
  • KS1 Performance 2: Wednesday 17th December at 9.30am
Please click here to book your tickets

Head Lice

Please take advantage of the half term break to check your child's hair, we have had a few cases of head lice in the Key Stage 1 classes.

  • Checking for head lice shouldn’t be considered a big deal, it is just a normal part of a family’s personal hygiene routine like brushing teeth or washing hair
  • It is best to check for head lice using a comb made for the purpose, ideally white so they can be easily seen and with teeth no more than 0.3mm apart in order to trap head lice
  • Combing through the hair when wet, or after applying a conditioner, may make the process more comfortable
  • Good lighting is important and so is comfort

If you find any lice, you can treat them in a variety of ways and you can find more information here.

Active Journey Week

Date: w/c 24th November

Each term we hold an Active Journey week (formerly known as 'Walk to School Week'), the aim of which is to raise awareness for and encourage more sustainable journeys to school.

During active journey week, we encourage parents/carers and children to walk, cycle, scoot to school. If you live further away from school, you can park your car further away from school than usual so that part of the journey can be walked (Park & Stride).

Every day, we ask the children to log how they came to school and during this week we will be trying to increase the number of active journeys. In Celebration Worship on Friday, there will be a trophy awarded to the class with the most active journeys during the week.

Safety Day

  •  Date: Tuesday 25th November

As part of our Active Journey week (formerly known as 'Walk to School Week') which takes place during the week of 24th November, we will be holding our annual Safety Day.

As part of the Safety Day, the children will be taking part in a range of activities which principally focus on safety around transport and roads. During the day, the children will all have a Scootability session which will teach them how to ride and use their scooters safely. There is no need to send children's scooters into school. Each child will be provided with a scooter and the necessary safety equipment for their session.

Other sessions include:

  • First Aid (provided by Dr McGurran)
  • Road Safety (provided by teachers)

Remembrance Day

Date: Tuesday 11th November

You will have seen us out selling poppies at the front of school in the lead up to Remembrance Day. We will continue to sell the poppies and other merchandise until the end of the day on Tuesday to help raise as much money as we can for the work of the British Legion.

The suggested donation for all items is £1. We also have a small supply of metal pin badges for adults, for a donation of £3.

To mark Remembrance Day, we will be holding a special collective worship on Tuesday. You can find out more about this and Remembrance Day in the news story above.

Odd Socks Day

Date: Thursday 13th November

Join us for Odd Socks Day to celebrate what makes us all unique and to raise awareness for Anti-Bullying Week.

We are encouraging all children to come into school wearing bright and colourful odd socks.

Odd Socks Day is all about embracing differences and spreading kindness. It is a simple way for children to learn that being different is something to be proud of!

No donations are needed – just a lot of smiles and odd socks!

Let's make our school a rainbow of odd socks and show that everybody is special in their own way.

Reception News

Local Area visit

Date: Tuesday 18th November, 11.00am -12.00pm

This half-term, the Reception children are going to be looking at different types of houses linked to their Noisy House story that they have been learning in literacy.

On Tuesday 18th November, Ants & Bees will be going on a walk in the local area to see how many different types of houses they can see. In order to make this possible, we will need 5 volunteers to join the classes for the walk.

If you are able to spare an hour to help the Reception team on Tuesday 18th between 11.00am and 12.00noon, please use the form below.

Spreading the Christmas Cheer

Date: Thursday 11th December, 1.30-3.00pm

On Thursday 11th December, we will be taking our Reception children to Liston Hall to sing to the U3A community group to help them with their festive celebrations.  We have supported this event for many years and are excited about taking our Reception children to sing. This will be our 3rd year of taking 4 and 5-year-olds, and we are proud to be able to do so.

U3A is an organisation which supports older people and those no longer working full/part-time in our community, with activities to continue their further learning or personal development. Formed in 2006, it has over 700 members and group activities such as engineering technology and transport, music appreciation day trips and walking groups, to name just a few.

As with all of these local area visits, we will require additional help from parents to ensure the safety of the children on the walk to and from Liston hall.

If you are able to help, please use the form below.

Year 1

Windsor Castle Trip

Date: Monday 10th November

On Monday the Year 1 children will be visiting Windsor Castle.

As part of the trip, each class will have an hour's teaching session, which has been selected to enrich their next half-term's topic: Kings, Queens and Castles. The children will also have ample time to explore the castle and the state apartments.

Children will need to wear school uniform on the day and a pair of sensible shoes for walking around the castle. Children will also need to bring a water bottle in addition to their packed lunch in a ruck sack. If parents have ordered a packed lunch for their child via The Kids Lunch Company, this will be put into their child's ruck sack on Monday morning.

Please make sure that children arrive on time, so that they don't miss the coach.
