World Children’s Day has made everyone happy today and the children were very keen to tell me why they were not wearing their school uniform AGAIN! We learned all about some children who have made a difference in recent years. Our Sandygate children were particularly inspired by Greta Thunberg and all of the children in Key Stage 1 felt that they wanted to use their ‘voices’ to help look after the planet.
On Monday, the Year 1 children learned such a lot about Toys from the Past as we welcomed ‘History Off the Page’ to lead a wonderful day of enrichment. From finding toys from the past during an archaeological dig and comparing the different materials they were made from to making their own simple toys – the impact on the children’s learning was impressive.
Safety Day yesterday was another great success of the week. Mrs Burkitt organised a fabulous day which taught the children some important life skills. We have some really useful books in school ‘Watch Out! – A child’s guide to everyday dangers’ which were donated to us by the Rotary Club and the charity OK Our Kids. It is available to buy from the charity’s website https://www.okourkids.org.uk/
We have had some interest in our Parent Governor vacancy and I am pleased to let you know that there are 3 nominations for the role. Thank you to Martin Hale, Daphne Howarth and Laura Liddle for their nominations. On Monday, we will be sending out details along with the ballot forms – there will be one for each parent and ballots will need to be returned to the school by Tuesday 1st December.
As the weather is becoming increasingly colder and we are trying to keep the school building well ventilated, the classrooms aren’t always as warm as they usually are. Although we are not keeping the doors open as much as we were, but we are ‘purging’ the air in the rooms by opening the doors fully across the day, particularly at break time and lunch time (as per the Government Guidance). We will be allowing the children to wear their school fleeces in class but I encourage parents and carers to ensure that children are wearing layers (if they are not already doing so). Eg vests, base layers etc. This will help us to try make sure that the children are not too warm or too cold.
