3rd October 2025

In school this week

Thank you to all the families who joined us at All Saints Church last week  for Sandygate Sunday and thank you to Mrs Downing who had worked with the children to prepare them for singing in front of a very full church! The children sang beautifully.

This week, work has started on installing a pond in the Wild World. There was great excitement when the mini digger arrived at school to dig a big hole for the pond to go in. Over the next week, we are hoping for more work to be done so that the pond will be ready to home lots of bugs and hopefully some frogs in the spring.

Recommended Reads – whole school

One area of focus in our reading curriculum is to promote the love of reading and there are many ways in which we do this in school. From reading class stories, to visiting the library in school to spending time reading and choosing books, modelling reading skills, discussing texts, to children sharing their love of reading through the recommending of books to their peers.

This week, it was the turn of Ladybird Class.

They chose one of the several Guinness World Record books that they have in their classroom. They like the world record books because they have lots of interesting facts in them and this one, in particular, because it is shiny and gold.

Otis said that he liked all the records and facts about Volcanoes and Oliver liked the penguin facts. He liked the Macaroni penguin the best because of the yellow feathers it has around its face.

Volunteer training

  • Dates: Tuesday 14th October & Thursday 16th October

Mums, dads, carers and grandparents are all very welcome in school as helpers. Thank you to those who have offered their help already. We have had family volunteers working on a variety of activities including listening to children read, mounting and displaying work and helping with sewing and craft activities – the possibilities are endless. The school operates a policy whereby parents need to attend a short training session before helping out in class. This training will be held in the school hall. We are offering two sessions, 2.30pm-3.00pm Tuesday 14th October or 9.00am-9.30am Thursday 16th October.

If you are interested in becoming a regular helper, please click here to read the Confidentiality Policy and here to read the Child Protection Policy. Then click here to complete the form.

Parents/Carers with children already at Marlow Infants can attend. For more information, please contact Holy Trinity.

On Tuesday 7th October there will be tours of the school in the afternoon and on Thursday 9th October there will be a presentation at 5.00pm followed by tours.

There is more detail in the leaflet at the bottom of the newsletter.

Coats & other outdoor clothing

At this time of the year, the weather can be very unpredictable and can change over the course of the day.

Please ensure that your child has a coat in school every day. We try to get the children outside during playtime and lunchtime as much as we can and, with the current changeable weather, a waterproof coat is essential.

Please remember to check that all coats are clearly named.

Parent consultations

  • Dates: Tuesday 21st & Wednesday 22nd October, between 4pm-7pm

Parent consultation slots are now live.

Please book your slot by the end of next week (10th October)

One Can Trust

Harvest time is all about being thankful for what we have, and we will be talking to the children about this in school. Helping and sharing with others is a good way of showing how thankful we are, and so we will be supporting One Can Trust (High Wycombe) over the Harvest period.

We will be collecting items for One Can Trust from Monday 6th October for our Harvest offering.

There will be boxes out at drop-off and pick-up all week.

Their priority items are:

  • UHT Milk
  • Cooking Sauces
  • Tinned Meat Meals
  • Tinned Vegetables (not tomatoes)
  • Toiletries (shampoo, deodorant, razors and toothbrushes)

It is hugely appreciated – your help is invaluable at these events!

Now that the summer holidays feel like a distant memory, if you have any left-over foreign currency (notes or coins) hanging around at the bottom of bags, purses or wallets, please drop it into the collection bucket at reception in front of the school office, and we will turn it into cash to support the school!
