In school this week

Welcoming the Reception children to school this week has been wonderful. They have now completed their first week at school, and they have done so well.  There is so much for them to take on board: a new environment, new routines and new people, but we have already seen such a difference today. They are really beginning to settle in!

The Key Stage 1 'Meet the Teacher' sessions went well on Monday. Thank you to all those parents and carers who came along. I hope that you found them useful.

The presentations that the teachers used during 'Meet the Teacher' are posted on the relevant Class Home Pages (secure section of the school website), so if you were unable to make it, you will be able to access the information provided there. Details about the Class Home Pages are below.

I would like to welcome Mrs Heidi Blay to the school staff team. Heidi will be working as our Communications Officer in the school office. She will be with us two days a week for a couple of weeks and then from the beginning of October she will be with us every day.

Weekly Awards

Each week in our celebration assembly we give out awards to children in school: Sandygate Star and Value Award.

Sandygate Star

The Sandygate Star Award is awarded to one child in each class. These are given by the class teachers for individual achievement and/or effort across all areas of school life.

Value Award

Our Value Award is linked to the school values which are Service, Respect, Kindness, Perseverance, Forgiveness and Thankfulness.

Each half-term we will link school worship and the value award to one of the values.  There will be a series of themes which help the children understand what the value is and these will be the focus of each week’s award.

Each week teacher’s will choose someone from their class who has demonstrated the relevant value during the week. Each child will be given a leaf or flower shaped certificate and a sticker. The certificates will be attached to the Values tree in the hall and children will take home their sticker.

Habits of Mind Award

A 'Habit of Mind' is how we use what we have learnt to decide the best way to do something, choosing behaviours that will help us learn and be positive. This is part of our metacognition work and the children will be learning about one Habit of Mind every half-term. Mrs Reynolds will be giving a certificate to one child from each class every week in celebration worship for children who are using the Habit of Mind in focus. This half term the Habit of Mind is 'Managing Impulsivity'.

Uniform

Please remember that children should not wear jewellery of any form to school. This includes earrings of any description.  Earrings are a safety hazard and if they are worn to school we will cover them with plaster tape and the child will not be able to participate in PE lessons. We would not expect to see the earrings being worn after this.

If parents and carers are considering having their child's ears pierced, we encourage them to do this during the summer holidays.

Parents/carers of children whose ears have just been pierced and need to have studs in them to maintain the piercing, should tape over the studs front and back, which may offer a measure of protection. The taping should be sufficient to prevent the stud post penetrating the bone behind the ear should an unintentional blow be received, for example from a collision on the playground. This taping will have to be worn to school until the healing process is completed, at which point the studs should be removed before school.  Children will not be able to participate in PE lessons during this period. Retainers can be used as an alternative to taping during this period only.

Class Home Pages - School website

There is a home page for each class on our school website. To access the website you need to log in using the login details previously provided.

Each class home page has gone live today and provides parents with information about the curriculum for this half-term, some useful dates and access to such things as class timetables (for KS1) and information session presentations. The class home pages are updated each half-term.

For children new to the school, including Reception children, logins were sent out from the website earlier this week.

These logins will also give you access to the parent consultation portal which will go live later in the half-term. This will allow you to book your time to meet with your child's class teacher.

Home Learning – Google Classrooms

Optional Home Learning is posted in Google Classrooms each week on a Friday.  Every child in the school will have a new login this year, and we had been hoping to email these to you so that you would be able to access Google Classrooms by today. Unfortunately, with the IT upgrades and changes that have happened over the summer, there have been a few issues with the logins for Google Classrooms. As soon as these issues have been resolved, we will email the logins to you.

Sandygate Sunday

  • Date: Sunday 28th September 11.00am-12 noon

Once a term, we are invited to take part in the 10.59 service at All Saints Church. Some of our pupils will read prayers they have written, and we lead the congregation in one of the songs we sing in school.

All Sandygate families are welcome to come along to the service. We ask that children wear their red jumpers/cardigans to identify them as Marlow Infant pupils. They should sit with their family during the service and the school staff in church will invite them up at the appropriate times.

Please click here to let us know if your child can attend

All Saints Community Fun Day

  • Date: Sunday 28th September 1.00pm - 4.00pm

After Sandygate Sunday, the All Saints team will be holding a fun-filled event to which all our school families are invited. There will be lots of activities to enjoy and refreshments provided. This is a great opportunity to meet other local families as well as school ones.  There is a leaflet containing full details at the bottom of the newsletter.

Reception

Welcome to Mrs Browning

We are pleased to welcome Mrs Browning to the Reception team as a trainee teacher. Mrs Browning will be in Reception this term and the summer term, working predominately with Bee Class but having day-to-day contact with all the Reception children.

Curriculum Information Session

  • Date: Wednesday 18th September

During this session we will be outlining the Foundation Stage Curriculum and explaining how the children will be learning this year and giving you some ideas on ways to support your child's learning at home.

The session takes place in the school hall and will last about an hour and a half, starting at 7.00pm. It is a really useful session and we have had excellent feedback about how helpful parents have found it in the past.

Please do book a place. We have only had 5 parents/carers sign up so far, which will not be enough people to ensure that the session goes ahead.
