23rd May 2025

In school this week

I have enjoyed seeing the children enjoying their Outdoor Learning this week; there has been lots of activity around the raised beds for Reception, learning about food chains for Year 2, and Year 1 have been finishing their learning about seasonal weather changes and day lengths. The weather has been ideal for this and the Eco Barn and the school grounds have seen lots of use.

The next half-term we are looking forward to taking part in the Archbishop's Young Leaders Award. This is something that will give children the opportunity to learn about kindness, perseverance and teamwork. They will also be able to take action in the community and learn about the importance of service to others. This is an extremely worthwhile programme that helps pupils to understand the importance of being responsible to and for society. The PFA have kindly agreed to fund this programme for all the children to participate in.

Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Moore, who has worked for the school for 28 years. She will be taking a well-earned retirement at the end of the summer term. Mrs Moore has made a huge contribution to the school over the years and has developed incredible skills and knowledge about the learning needs of infants, especially for those with special educational needs. We are going to miss her expertise, but I know you will join with me to wish her a long and happy retirement.

I hope that you all have a wonderful break over the next week.

2025 Parent Survey

  • Deadline: Wednesday 4th June

The governors sent this year's parent survey to the whole school on Wednesday. You can also find it here.

We would be very grateful if you could complete this questionnaire by Wednesday 4th June.

Call to Kenya

This morning, Year 2 were able to talk to pupils from The Bright Future Academy in Oyugis in Kenya. They learned a lot from each other and were able to share what they had been learning about in school, their favourite foods and what the weather was like. We sang a song to each other too!

Next half-term we will have a whole afternoon (as part of a Geography day) when all classes will be learning about Kenya and particularly the area in which The Bright Future Academy is situated.

Late arrivals

Arriving late (after 8.55am) is extremely disruptive for both children and teachers. The child misses out on the early morning routine and information about what is happening that day. Please make sure you leave home early enough to make sure that your child arrives on time.

As a reminder, registers open at 8.45am, parents & carers have a 10-minute window to deliver their children to school. At 8.55am, the teachers and teaching assistants need to be in class so that the register can be closed and to ensure that the classes are settled and ready to start their learning. The gates will be closed at 8.55am and anyone arriving after this point will be marked as late in the register.

Whilst the teachers and teaching assistants can have a quick chat or take messages at drop off, they can't be delayed beyond 8.55am. If you need to have a longer conversation with the class teacher, please make an appointment via the school office.

Pentecost Service

  • Date: Monday 9th June, 9.15am-9.45am

The day of Pentecost marks fifty days since Easter Day and brings the Easter season to an end. It is a major feast of the Church’s year when Christians recall how God’s Holy Spirit was given to the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations.

On Monday 9th June, 9.15am-9.45am, we would like to invite families to join us in watching the service. Due to the size of the hall, we can only invite 1 parent/carer per family, and have a maximum of 100 tickets.

If you would like to join us, please book your ticket below.

Sunscreen

After half-term, we would like to remind you to ensure that your child comes to school with sunscreen applied.

Your child may bring in a named bottle of sunscreen if they are able to apply it themselves during the day. Please remind your child that they can only use their sunscreen when told to do so by their teacher and that they may not share it with anyone else in school as they do not know if their friends might have allergies to the ingredients.

All children have a school sun hat which they wear whenever they are outside.

The British Skin Foundation has a lot of sun safety advice for parents.

Eco Day of Action - REMINDER

  • Date: Thursday 5th June

This year, we will once again be joining with other schools in Marlow to participate in an Eco Day of Action. The focus will be on water and waterways. The children will be learning about the water cycle and considering how they can help keep our local waterways clean and useable. We will also be having an electricity-free day!

As part of the day, we are asking the children to come dressed in blue. We would like to raise money for WaterAid, so any donations would be really appreciated.

Please donate here

During the day, the Year 2 children will be performing their Ocean dance that they have been working on this half-term for the rest of the school.

It's that time of year again, when the children are doing their self-portraits ready for the year group masterpiece, and pride of your kitchen...the tea towel! Tea towels will have the whole year group on them including staff, and are a lovely memento.

Tea towels are priced at £6 each or 3 for £15 and can be ordered on ParentPay now!

Summer Fair & Colour Run

  • Date: Saturday 28th June

Join us on Saturday 28th June from 11.30am-3pm for our jammed-packed Summer Fair! Alongside all the usual great fair games, including Hook a Duck, Beat the Goalie & Splat a Rat, we will also have dance and singing performances from the children!

With a well-stocked bar & BBQ, there is no better place to enjoy the sunshine and let the kids go crazy with face painting, glitter tattoos and endless fun on the bouncy castle.

The Summer Fair is also getting a colourful boost this year with our first ever Colour Run. The Colour Run is more than just a fundraiser—it's an opportunity to bring children, families, and the wider community together in an energetic and inclusive environment. The children will run, walk, or jog along a course while being splashed with bursts of safe, non-toxic coloured powder at various stations. It promises to be a day full of laughter, fitness, and school spirit!

Tickets are now available on ParentPay!

All this fun can’t go ahead without your help, so please consider giving up an hour of your time in support of the school.

Small Change Challenge

  • Date: June

Starting after half-term, can your class collect the MOST small change?

We would love your coins! Children are invited to bring in small change from home and pop it into the collection bucket in each classroom.

Outdoor Volunteering Day

  • Date: Monday 2nd June

The sun is out, and it is a great time to get involved in the latest PFA activity; Outdoor Volunteering Day on Monday 2nd June.

You will be helping the school with painting fences, pruning and planting. With your help, the Wild World and the Bee Garden will look fabulous again. Plus, it is a nice way to be active and meet other parents.

If your company supports corporate volunteering days, then this could be a perfect way of helping the school. The PFA can provide a letter with the charity registration to meet corporate needs.

If you are interested in getting involved, please let Nina know (07787 350393).
