16th May 2025

In school this week

Our donation day for One Can Trust has been a successful one. Thank you for all your wonderful donations, our trolley was overflowing! The children loved wearing their yellow accessories, and you can see some of these in the photo of them in school worship below.

Year 2 enjoyed their trip to Wittenham Clumps. They had fun exploring the site and the weather was perfect for them.

Next week, the last week of the half-term (already!), we will be taking part in Active Journey Week, when we are encouraging families to walk or park & stride to school.

Finally, I would like to thank Dave Bourdillon, who recently stepped down from his role as governor. Dave has served on our Governing Body for five years, and we have been able to benefit from his expertise and support in many areas.

You should have received a link to order your class photo this week. To receive FREE delivery, the deadline for ordering is Friday 23rd May.

Active Journey Week

  • Dates: 19th - 23rd May

Active Journey Week aims to increase the number of children walking, cycling, and scooting to school. Actively travelling to school has many benefits for your child: it helps keep them fit and healthy, can increase concentration levels in class, helps develop road safety skills, and is fun. Reducing the number of cars around the school will also help to make the area quieter, safer, and less congested.

The class with the most increased active journeys will win the Active Journey trophy and an additional badge. In the autumn term, the trophy was won by Grasshopper class, and Bee class won in the spring term. Who will win this summer term?

Keeping your bike safe

As the weather improves, and we spend more time out and about on our bikes, it’s important to make sure they stay safe and secure. That’s why we’re teaming up with our local Police community support officers to host a bike security marking session.

  • When: Friday 23rd May at 8.30am
  • Where: Front of school

Bring yours and your children’s bikes to have them security marked for free. This simple step can help deter theft and make it easier to recover your bike if it ever goes missing.

Please let us know here if you would like to bring in your bike.

Eco Day of Action

  • Date: Thursday 5th June

This year, we will once again be joining with other schools in Marlow to participate in an Eco Day of Action. The focus will be on water and waterways. The children will be learning about the water cycle and considering how they can help keep our local waterways clean and useable. We will also be having an electricity-free day!

As part of the day, we are asking the children to come dressed in blue. We would like to raise money for WaterAid, so any donations would be really appreciated. You can donate here.

During the day, the Year 2 children will be performing their Ocean dance that they have been working on this half-term for the rest of the school.

Show & Tell

  • Dates: Starts next week - Tuesday & Thursday afternoons

For the rest of the year, we will be doing “Show and Tell” on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

On these days from next week, the children can bring in an item that they wish to share with the class at the end of the day. This could be something they have made or an item that helps them to tell a story about an experience they have had.

Items will be kept on the teacher's desk throughout the day and are not for use during play learning. Whilst we will, of course, try to keep this item safe for the day, please do not send anything that is too valuable/ special as there is always a risk of damage/ loss.

We look forward to hearing what the children have to share.

Grapes

Please remember if you send grapes in for your child, they must be cut in half lengthways. Thank you.

Summer Fair & Colour Run

  • Date: Saturday 28th June

Join us on Saturday 28th June from 11.30am-3pm for our jammed-packed Summer Fair! Alongside all the usual great fair games, including Hook a Duck, Beat the Goalie & Splat a Rat, we will also have dance and singing performances from the children!

With a well-stocked bar & BBQ, there is no better place to enjoy the sunshine and let the kids go crazy with face painting, glitter tattoos and endless fun on the bouncy castle.

The Summer Fair is also getting a colourful boost this year with our first ever Colour Run. The Colour Run is more than just a fundraiser—it's an opportunity to bring children, families, and the wider community together in an energetic and inclusive environment. The children will run, walk, or jog along a course while being splashed with bursts of safe, non-toxic coloured powder at various stations. It promises to be a day full of laughter, fitness, and school spirit!

Sign-up forms and sponsorship pages for the Colour Run are now available on ParentPay!

All this fun can’t go ahead without your help, so please consider giving up an hour of your time in support of the school.

Small Change Challenge

  • Date: June

Starting after half-term, can your class collect the MOST small change?

We would love your coins! Children are invited to bring in small change from home and pop it into the collection bucket in each classroom.

The class that makes the most money by the end of June will win a mufti day.

Outdoor Volunteering Day

  • Date: Monday 2nd June

The sun is out, and it is a great time to get involved in the latest PFA activity; Outdoor Volunteering Day on Monday 2nd June.

You will be helping the school with painting fences, pruning and planting. With your help, the Wild World and the Bee Garden will look fabulous again. Plus, it is a nice way to be active and meet other parents.

If your company supports corporate volunteering days, then this could be a perfect way of helping the school. The PFA can provide a letter with the charity registration to meet corporate needs.

If you are interested in getting involved, please let Nina know (07787 350393).

Brickies Lego Workshop

  • Date: Sunday 8th June

There’s still time to enrol in the Brick City Superhero Academy. Help Batman clean up Gotham City, join Iron Man as he gets The Avengers back together, take a ride with the DC Superhero Girls, swing through the streets of New York with Spiderman! This is a 90-minute LEGO building workshop, running from 3pm – 4:30pm on Sunday 8th June.

Limited tickets are £15 and are now available on ParentPay.

The Brickies format is a visual story presentation to children punctuated with several building challenges that link into the story. Brickies is all about promoting imagination and creativity. There are no instructions and there is no right way or wrong way to build something. We provide children with bundles of positive encouragement to be as creative as possible.

Each child will receive a Brickies certificate, a special edition Brickies badge and a little edible treat at the end of the workshop.
