2nd May 2025

In school this week

This week we have felt the benefit of the sunshine and the children have spent even more time outdoors than usual. From the Mini Marathon to their outdoor lessons, the sunny and dry weather has been a real treat.

The outdoor learning lessons with The Outdoor Project are well underway for this half-term. The Year 1s have been learning about the weather, and setting up a weather station to help identify seasonal weather (you may have seen the wind sock on the field). In Year 2 this week, they were learning about different habitats around the world and Reception did a treasure hunt using a map to find their way around the school grounds.

As we are spending more time outdoors, it is especially important to remember to put sun cream on your children before they come to school.

I hope that you all enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Class photos

  • Date: Thursday 8th May

Our school photographer will be coming to school on Thursday to take class photos.

Year 1: Please make sure your child comes to school dressed in full school uniform irrespective of your child's PE day.

VE Day

  • Date: Friday 9th May

The 80th anniversary of VE Day will be marked on 8th May 2025 – signalling eight decades since the end of the Second World War in Europe.

We will be celebrating VE day on Friday 9th May, and would like to invite children to add an accessory of blue to their school uniform, so they will be wearing red, white and blue!

One Can Trust

  • Date: Friday 16th May

Donations tail off hugely during this time of year, leaving  One Can Trust's shelves feeling very empty.

We’d love to support One Can Trust and invite children to wear a yellow accessory with their full school uniform on Friday 16th May, in return for bringing in one (or more) suitable items of food. Please choose from the shopping list below. Your child could wear a yellow sticker on their shirt, yellow socks, headband, cap, or even yellow nail polish or hair! The choice is yours.

Our donation tub was washed and cleaned by the School Councillors this week, ready to receive donations. We would like to remind families that our donation point is always accessible. It is located to the right of the main gate. Therefore, donations can be left there whenever you like; no need to wait until Friday 16th.

Hot lunches

Now the children have had a couple of weeks of hot lunches, please check with your child to make sure they are enjoying their selected meals.

We always advise going through the lunch options with your child and having them choose what they would like to eat.

A few children have come to school with a packed lunch and have a hot lunch ordered. Please be mindful of food waste.

Pick up & drop off

A reminder to all families that bikes and scooters must be walked on school grounds at all times. It is for everyone's health and safety, to dismount and walk as soon as you enter the school gates.

As part of our Walk to School policy to encourage children to cycle or scoot to school, we have a large undercover area next to the Eco Barn to store bikes and scooters, which means that they are secure during the school day.

Uniform

Hair

We would like to remind families that if your child has long hair, please keep your child's hair tied back using red/white/black hairbands.

School cap

Now that we are in the summer term and the weather is warming up, please make sure your child has a red school cap. These are kept in school to use throughout the term. They can be ordered from our uniform supplier, PMG Schoolwear.

MDSA vacancy

We currently have a Midday Supervising Assistant (MDSA) vacancy. We are looking to appoint a responsible and enthusiastic individual who will ensure the safety, welfare and good conduct of the children during the lunchtime period. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team working with happy and friendly children.

The full job description and details of how to apply can be found on the school website here.
