25th April 2025

In school this week

Welcome to the summer term. I hope that you all enjoyed the Easter break - the children have been sharing just some of the things they had fun doing over the holidays!

This week all the classes have started their new topics and this has caused great excitement. You can find out more about what each year group is learning every week in learning at a glance below, and this will help you to support your children at home too.

I would like to remind parents and carers of the importance of reading with their child(ren) at home. This supports the learning in school and means that children can make even more progress in their reading as a result. Sharing stories and books with children of infant age is crucial too and promotes the enjoyment of reading. Please write in your child's reading record book when your child has read to/with you.

Next week, we are looking forward to the Mini Marathon that the children will be undertaking at school.

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Hot lunches

It's been lovely to see the children enjoying their hot lunches this week.

If you have not created your account yet, please visit www.kidslunch.co.uk to create an account and a profile for your child.

We would like to remind parents to place your lunch orders BEFORE midday on the Friday for the following week. You can order lunches for the whole term if you wish.

If you would like to amend your order, it must be done before the cut-off time for that week.

To amend an order:

  1. Click on 3 bars on the right
  2. Select your child. Your booked items will then appear
  3. Click on the day you want to change & select cancel
  4. Go back to the main dashboard
  5. Here you can re-order the meal by choosing a different lunch option
  6. Check out

Healthy lunch boxes

Should you choose for your child not to have school meals, then here are some guidelines which we would ask you to follow for your child’s packed lunch:

  • Lunch should include at least one savoury item, which your child will be encouraged to eat first
  • Lunches must not contain sweets, confectionery or fizzy drinks
  • No nut-containing products (this includes chocolate spreads which contain nuts)
  • As a healthy school, we would encourage you to limit items containing chocolate to one small snack-size cake or biscuit (not a chocolate bar) and perhaps put in just a few crisps rather than a whole packet, or give them this once a week as a treat
  • We would also advise not to pack too much, as the children are given up to 30 minutes to eat their lunch, as we would like them to be able to play as well. Any food which is uneaten will remain in your child’s lunch box so that you are able to monitor what they have eaten.

Tissues

We would be most grateful for donations of tissue boxes from parents please. We are very low. Thank you in advance.

Mini Marathon

In school next week, all the children will be running, skipping and walking 2 miles in support of WWF-UK. The Reception children will be splitting the mileage across the week (so a bit every day) and KS1 children will complete the mileage in their PE lessons. We have taken part in the TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools since it started in 2020, and every year the children have really enjoyed the challenge. Each child will receive a certificate for taking part and, as a school, we will receive a trophy for taking part.

2 miles is a long way for the age of our children, and we would like to support their efforts by raising money for WWF-UK.

Please donate here

There are always many different reasons why people choose to run the London Marathon and most of the time this is because they want to challenge themselves. We are always encouraging the children at school to rise to a challenge and our Mini Marathon next week will be one such challenge. You can see below some examples of others who have taken on the challenge of the London and Mini London Marathon themselves.

In 2024, at the age of 19, Lloyd Martin became the first person with Down's Syndrome to complete the London Marathon.

The London Marathon (in its 45th year) takes place on Sunday 27th April and is always inspirational to watch. If you have a chance on Sunday to watch it with your children, please do. It is brilliant!

Quotes from the oldest celebrity participant of the London Marathon in 2021 and Chris Evans in 2024:

Rajinder Singh

“I had a fantastic time. I skipped through some of the course and that helped with my knees. I’ve run a 5K and 10K before, but this was my first-ever marathon, and it was wonderful.”

Chris Evans

“My legs felt like they would fall off and it didn’t get any easier. You really have to dig deep on the course. They always say that the marathon is a lap of honour for all your hard training. You really have to push yourself.”

Lighthouse Marlow

Lighthouse Marlow is a children’s holiday club, and this year it will run from Monday 4th – Friday 8th August between 10.00 – 15.40 at St Peter’s School. The club is run by volunteers and can only run if we have enough volunteers.

Register to help now at signup.org.uk/lighthouse-marlow/25

If you sign up for 3 or more sessions, your child will automatically be guaranteed a place.
