28th March 2025

In school this week

We are very excited that our canopy (which is near the Wild World behind the school building) has new walls. This has given it a new lease of life, and we are hoping that it will give many more years of use. This 'refurbishment' has been paid for by funds raised by the PFA, so thank you to them and to you as parents for your donations to the PFA fundraising.

We would really like to do some work in the Wild World to tidy it up and get it ready for all the activities that have been planned during the summer term. I was wondering if there were any parents/carers who have an interest in gardening/wildlife that would be able to organise a working party after the Easter break and come and help with this. We have lots of ideas and some plans, but we would love to have your input and help.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!

'Book Look' session

  • Date: Thursday

We would like to remind families that we will be holding another 'Book Look' session after school on Thursday 3rd April. Parents/carers will be able to see what the children have been working on and how much progress they have made this term.

Reading & library books

Next week we will be collecting all the reading and library books so that we can audit our stock. This means that there will be no new library books coming home next week and no new reading books after Tuesday.

Please continue to read with your children over the Easter break and record any reading done in your child's reading record book.

Wellies

We will be sending home wellies for the Easter break, so that they can be used during the holidays. Please remember to send them in again for outdoor learning during the first week of the summer term.

Hot lunches

  • Deadline: midday Friday 18th April

As mentioned previously, we will be offering children hot lunches after the Easter holidays. These lunches will be provided by our existing lunch supplier, The Kids Lunch Company.

The company will offer a 3-week rolling menu and meals will be ordered by parents/carers via their website each week.

From Monday, visit www.kidslunch.co.uk to create an account and a profile for your child. Please don't create an account until Monday, as the new system won't go live until then.

Within your account you will be able to:

  • Manage orders easily
  • Modify or cancel orders as needed
  • Avoid past-date orders with an integrated calendar
  • Ensure orders meet the midday cut-off for the following week
  • Fill out an enquiry form if you have a question or a problem relating to the site (please don't email the school office)

Please note: Parents need to order lunches BEFORE midday on the Friday for the following week. You can order lunches for the whole term if you wish.

The Kids Lunch Company does not accommodate late order requests.

For the first week back after the Easter Holidays, all orders must be placed by midday on Friday 18th April.

After an order is placed, you will receive an email confirmation from meals@menuvo.co.uk. Please check your junk email before contacting them.

Science home learning

Our Science lead, Mrs Browning, has organised some exciting activities for all year groups to do over the Easter holidays. These activities will go live on Google Classroom next week.

  • Reception will be making Oobleck
  • Year 1 will be making a rain gauge
  • Year 2 will be changing the colour of flowers

Summer 1 term club sign-ups

  • Dates: These clubs will start w/c 28th April

If you would like to sign your child up to any of our school-run clubs:

Please register here

We will let you know if your child is given a place and will try our best to offer all children at least one club. If your child has not been given a place in a club, they will be added to a waiting list and will be contacted should a place become available for them. They will also be on the list for next term.

The school-run clubs for KS1 are:

  • Sandygate Stars
  • Book Club
  • Mindful Colouring
  • Bible Bricks
  • Science Club
  • Maypole (will continue with the same children)
  • Sandygate Singers (will continue with the same children)
  • Tidy Up Team (will continue with the same children)

The school-run club for Reception is:

  • Art Club

For booking clubs run by external companies, you can find the list on our website here. Please contact them directly.

School uniform

As you know, we are slowly phasing out our old school logo. Our uniform supplier, PMG Schoolwear, will continue to sell old logo items until they run out, and any ordered after then will be embroidered with the new logo. They will not update pictures on our school page until June.

In June, they will put all old logo items under a separate code and display them as old logo items at a discounted rate.

One big change is with our school bookbag. After listening to parent feedback and consulting the governors, we have agreed to replace the bookbag with an infant backpack. The backpack will fit children's reading folders and snack pots in the main section, and a side pocket for their school water bottles.

We have a sample in the office with our new logo embroidered on it if you would like to have a look.

There is no expectation for parens/carers to purchase new uniform with the new logo on it. We anticipate that old and new logo uniforms will be running alongside each other in school for some time to come. This will mean that parents/carers can continue to purchase old logo pre-loved uniform from the PFA.

MDSA vacancy

We currently have a Midday Supervising Assistant (MDSA) vacancy. We are looking to appoint a responsible and enthusiastic individual who will ensure the safety, welfare and good conduct of the children during the lunchtime period. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team working with happy and friendly children.

The full job description and details of how to apply can be found on the school website here.

Trip to Wittenham Clumps

  • Date: Wednesday 14th May

A letter was sent out yesterday with all the information regarding the trip. We must have consent for your child to be allowed to take part in this trip. Please provide consent through ParentPay by Friday 4th April so that we can make all the necessary arrangements.

On ParentPay there is also the opportunity to sign up parent volunteers to accompany us. There will be a briefing for all helpers on Tuesday 6th May at 9.00am to ensure that everybody is aware of the procedures for, and content of the day. You must be available to attend this if you are coming on the trip.

Year 1 news

Head lice

There are a number of children with head lice at the moment, particularly in Butterfly class.

Please use the Easter break to check and treat your child's hair. This will prevent the spread of head lice in the new term.

Download the step-by-step guide that tells you everything you need to know about checking for and treating head lice.
