21st March 2025

In school this week

This week, the Year 1 children welcomed Aris back to school. We enjoyed hearing the Ladybirds and Butterflies playing the Gamelan instruments, and we are all excited about seeing their 'Celebration of Javanese Culture' during the last week of term!

Yesterday, Bee class treated us to their class-led worship about the value of thankfulness. They spoke confidently and had lots of ideas about the importance of the value. My thanks go to Mr Creese and the rest of the Bee class team for their work in preparing the children for their worship.

It was lovely seeing the children walking into school this morning with their red accessories (and faces, legs, socks, nails....). They have really entered into the spirit of Red Nose Day, and we had great fun sharing jokes in Celebration worship today.

Next week, we will be sharing information about the hot lunches that we will be starting to serve after Easter. This will include information about menus and how parents/carers can order lunches for their children.

Great Big School Clean - REMINDER

  • Dates: 24th - 28th March

On Monday 24th March, our Tidy Up Team and Eco Warriors will be litter-picking outside Seymour Park Recreation Ground with some of the Marlow Wombles. Other schools in the town will be litter picking in other areas as part of our Eco-collaboration group and the rest of our children will be litter picking in the school grounds.

World Down Syndrome Day - REMINDER

  • Date: Friday 28th March

We will be marking World Down Syndrome day in school on Friday 28th March (a week later than the official day). Earlier in the week (Wednesday), the children will be learning about Down Syndrome during school worship and on Friday 28th we are asking the children to come to school wearing bright, colourful socks that will get noticed. The idea is that people will ask them why they are wearing the socks, and they will be able to say 'I am wearing these socks to raise awareness for Down Syndrome!'

We still need:

  • 5 more Ant parents
  • 3 more Bee parents
  • 2 more Butterfly parents
  • 4 more Ladybird parents
  • 4 more Dragonfly parents

Easter Competitions

  • All entries brought in on: Monday 31st March

It's that time of year again for our annual Easter Competitions!

We would like the children to bring their entries into school on Monday 31st March so that we can judge them and award the winners on Thursday 3rd April. Please don't bring them in before this date as we don't have enough space to store them.

We are planning to have an Easter Hat parade on Thursday 3rd April at which the Year 2 children can show off their Easter Hats to the rest of the school.

The details for the competition for each year group's are shown below. The categories are:

Reception – Easter Basket

Create an Easter basket using recycled materials and using some of the symbols of Easter that you have been learning about.

Year 1 – Easter Garden

An Easter garden is a traditional way of remembering what happened on Good Friday and usually includes a hill. As the bible says, Jesus was crucified on a hilltop, three crosses, a stone to represent the stone across the entrance to the tomb. Some simple instructions for a garden are shown below.

Year 2 – Easter Hat

An Easter hat is any new hat worn traditionally on Easter Sunday. It is the tail end of an English tradition of wearing new clothes for Easter and is in keeping with the spirit of renewal and redemption at this time of the year.

For our Easter hats, we would like you to take the theme of renewal further by reusing and recycling materials for your hat.

Footsteps Training Programme - REMINDER

Footsteps is a practical pedestrian training scheme for children up to the age of 7, developed by Buckinghamshire Council. It involves taking children to the roadside and teaching them how to behave around traffic, what to look for, how to find safe places to cross the road and how to cross roads safely with an adult.

We are still looking for another parent to help with this programme towards the end of the summer term. It will involve a 1-hour training session with Mrs Higham, then walking with small groups of children throughout the programme.

Mrs Higham will work around you! We can run the programme 1 afternoon for 6 weeks or 2 afternoons for 3 weeks or 3 afternoons for 2 weeks over the summer term. Each session will be from 1.30pm to 3pm.

I would like to help with this programme

MDSA vacancy

We currently have a Midday Supervising Assistant (MDSA) vacancy. We are looking to appoint a responsible and enthusiastic individual who will ensure the safety, welfare and good conduct of the children during the lunchtime period. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team working with happy and friendly children.

The full job description and details of how to apply can be found on the school website here.

A celebration of Indonesian culture

  • Date: Wednesday 2nd April

This half-term, the children have been learning about the wildlife, geography and culture of Java.

Aris Daryono, who has been visiting our school for the past 12 years, has been in to share his passion for gamelan music, the art of Java, and will help the children make some wonderful shadow puppets.

On Wednesday 2nd April from 2pm–3pm, the Year 1 children will be inviting their families to come in and taste some Indonesian food whilst being entertained by the children with shadow puppet shows. There will be a limit of 2 tickets per child.

The children will be selling tickets for £1 after school every day next week.

We are kindly asking for 4 parents to help us cook some traditional Indonesian food, such as banana fritters, fried tempeh and Nasi Goreng (fried rice) on the morning of Wednesday 2nd April for an hour after drop-off. We will provide recipes and ingredients.
