31st January 2025

In school this week

It has been another exciting week in school and I have enjoyed seeing the children in their classrooms and outside busy learning in a range of subjects. In Outdoor Learning, the Year 1 children were learning different ways to cut vegetables in design and technology, In Year 2, they were learning about continents - I was so impressed with all the facts that they could tell me about the different continents. In Year 1, they were learning about polar explorers, and about how we know about all the things that have happened in the past.

Grasshopper class led school worship on Thursday and taught us all about the school value of respect. Their role play and facts about respect were brilliant. It formed a good reminder to us all about the importance of showing respect to each other. Thank you to Miss Cubbage and Mrs Britnell for preparing for the worship.

We have heard that you all managed to raise £208.47 from the Asda Rewards scheme that we took part in. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising in this way. This money will be put together with the other funds raised by the PFA and help to contribute towards such things as the Space Dome enrichment that was provided for the Reception children today.

The Reception children have been out and about in the school grounds this week, taking part in the RSPB Big School's Birdwatch. They have been identifying different species of birds and counting how many of each they see. Next week the Year 2 classes will be taking part.

I look forward to seeing the children dressed up in digits next Friday for NSPCC Number Day.

World Book Day

  • Date: Thursday 6th March

Dressing up

As you may know, World Book Day is just around the corner. We are thrilled to celebrate this special day and encourage all children to join in the fun by dressing up as a character from a book they love.

Making the day meaningful

We kindly ask that children bring along a copy of the book featuring their chosen character, if possible. This will give them the chance to share the story behind their costume with their classmates.

Children will have the opportunity to:

  • Share who they’ve dressed up as and explain why they chose that character.
  • Show their book to a friend and discuss their favourite parts

We hope this day sparks creativity, inspires a love of reading and brings stories to life in a fun and engaging way!

Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to see the wonderful characters brought to life on World Book Day!

NSPCC Number Day - Dress up for Digits

  • Date: Friday 7th February

We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day again this year. NSPCC are also celebrating 25 years!

Making maths meaningful

We are having a fun day of maths activities, and we will be taking part in Dress up for Digits. Pupils are asked to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt or even a onesie!). Or get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme.

Safe fundraising

To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations, and we’d love everyone in the school to take part in this special event.

We've set up a Just Giving page here

Please donate and share with friends, so we can support the NSPCC.

Please don't forget to follow us on social media! We will be using these platforms to share some of the wonderful things we do and achieve at school, so please 'like' and 'follow' us!

1-Minute Maths

To help children with their maths, 1-Minute Maths is a free app that helps children build their number confidence and fluency through engaging, 1-minute tasks. This is something that we use in school and thought that parents/carers might like to use at home.

Do you have a spare hour or two between 10th - 14th March? We would love to hear from you!
