17th January 2025

In school this week

I have enjoyed being headteacher today because I have been very busy doing all the jobs. I have been checking that the children were doing their work.

I loved doing celebration worship and handing out awards. We got some new books and I stamped all of them. The books are now in the library ready for the children to read.

Next Week's 'Learning at a Glance'

'Learning at a Glance' gives you a round of what the children will be learning next week in school. The aim is to give parents and carers information about the areas of the curriculum that their children will be covering, which will help with conversations about what has been happening in school and also allow them to support or deepen learning at home. You will see, for example, the books the children are focusing on in English, the specific objectives that are being taught and which areas of the curriculum are being covered in outdoor learning.

General news & reminders

Whole school news

School values home learning

There will be 1 school values home learning sheet per half-term which will contain creative and discussion-based tasks which will help children to understand the values and the charter. This half-term, the school value covered is Perseverance. You can find the home learning sheet on Google Classrooms.

Every child is expected to do the school values home learning every half-term. There is an activity to do and bring to school.

Optional activities will also be set on a weekly basis for all year groups.

Supporting children with their home learning
We are happy for parents to support their children with their home learning, and sometimes the activities will need an adult to help. Parents are encouraged to ensure that their children complete the activities to the best of their ability and present any written work neatly.

Scientist volunteers for Science Week

  • Dates: 10th - 14th March

Are you a scientist? Do you have a spare hour or two between 10th - 14th March? We would love to hear from you!

At Marlow Infants, we will be hosting Science Week 2025 so that the children can experience an intense, fun-filled week of hands-on Science. They will be taking part in investigations, hearing from scientists, such as yourself, about how science is used in the world and generally having lots of fun honing their scientific skills.

Last year, we had a Helicopter Pilot who helped the children understand the physics behind flying, Food Scientists who explained how food is flavoured, and another who showed the children how chocolate is made in factories, and a GP who spoke about anatomy and self-care.

The theme for Science Week this year is 'Change & Adapt'. Each parent/carer who volunteers will spend 20-30mins in each class. It can be morning or afternoon. It can be any type of science that parents are involved in.

Children love seeing their parents talking about what they are passionate about and Science Week gives them a great opportunity to become enthused about Science at school.

If you can offer any support for Science Week:

Please let us know here

On Sunday 26th it will be one of our regular Sandygate Sundays at All Saints Church. We will be taking part in their 10.59 service with some children reading prayers, and we will sing one of our worship songs.

We would love to see as many red jumpers in the congregation as possible to identify them as Sandygate pupils. They should sit with their family during the service and the school staff in church will invite them up at the appropriate times.

Please indicate below if you will attend the service. It is likely to finish at 12 noon.

My child will attend the service

Smartphone Free Childhood

The Smartphone Free Childhood (SFC) campaign is a national parent-led movement raising awareness about the risks of smartphones in schools for our younger pre-teens and teens.

https://smartphonefreechildhood.co.uk

The local SFC groups have come together and are conducting a Marlow wide survey for parents of primary school children to gauge their views on smartphone use / their concerns.

Click here for the link to the survey

The SFC movement aims to bring parents together to share information, understand what is happening nationally and internationally and, ultimately, delay smartphones in schools for under 14s. You could join the group to be involved in the local conversation and keep abreast of Marlow-specific news.
