10th January 2025

In school this week

Happy New Year and welcome back to school!

I hope that you all had a good break Christmas and New Year. It is usually a very busy holiday with lots going on. I am sure that you will find getting back into the school routine helpful.

Our first 2 days of the term have been spent learning about our school vision and values. All the classes have been learning about one of the values and each is preparing a class worship to share with their parents and carers. You can see details of the dates and times below.

On Wednesday, we had our last visit from Reverend Dave before he leaves to take up his new role of Bishop of Buckingham. I would like to thank him for all the support he has given us and for the contribution he has made to the school over the last 13 years. He will be missed by us all, but he has promised to come back and visit us!

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Trainers on PE days - REMINDER

There are still a number of children without black trainers. We would like to remind families that part of our school uniform on PE days is for children to come in to school wearing plain black trainers.

We don't want to see trainers of any other colour or ones that light up.

Class home pages and Home Learning

These have now been updated for Spring 1 on the school website.

Class home pages provide an overview of what the children will be learning this half-term, a class timetable for the half-term, curriculum presentations and the Meet the Teacher presentations that happened in the autumn term.

Home Learning for the first week of the half term has gone live today. This can be found on your child's Google Classroom.

Active Journey Week

  • Dates: Monday 13th - Friday 17th

This is an opportunity to blow off those Christmas cobwebs and get moving again.

Active Journey Week means walking/wheeling to school and, for those living further afield, you can park and stride.

We will be tracking each classes' walking/wheeling to school and awarding a trophy to the class which has the most improved number of active trips to school.

Class-Led Worships

We will be holding class-led worships over the next few months. Each class will be basing their worship on their class value, and we would like to invite parents/carers to join in with the worship.

Each class worship will be from 9am-9.30am. We are limiting 2 tickets per family.

Please make sure you only book tickets for your child's class!

Sandygate Sunday

  • Date: Sunday 26th January

On Sunday 26th it will be one of our regular 'Sandygate' Sundays at All Saints Church. We will be taking part in their 10.59 service with some children reading prayers, and we will sing one of our worship songs.

We would love to see as many red jumpers in the congregation as possible to identify them as Sandygate pupils. They should sit with their family during the service and the school staff in church will invite them up at the appropriate times.

Please indicate below if you will attend the service. It is likely to finish at 12 noon.

My child will attend the service

Outdoor learning

Children had their first session with Dan from The Outdoor Project this week.

Please make sure they bring in their waterproof trousers (you can buy these on Parent Pay) and an extra pair of socks to wear inside their wellies, wear long trousers/PE trousers, jumper and coat on their outdoor learning day.

Here is a reminder of our Outdoor Learning days:

  • Year 2: Tuesday
  • Year 1: Thursday
  • Reception: Wednesday

Tissues

We would be most grateful for donations of tissue boxes from parents please. We are very low. Thank you in advance.

Clubs for next half-term

Thank you to those who have signed their children up to our school-run clubs.

We still have a few spaces in the clubs below. Please contact the office if you are interested in a place for your child.

  • Sandygate Stars
  • Tidy Up Team
  • Book Club
  • Bible Bricks

School run clubs will start next week.

MDSA vacancy

We currently have a Midday Supervising Assistant (MDSA) vacancy. We are looking to appoint a responsible and enthusiastic individual who will ensure the safety, welfare and good conduct of the children during the lunchtime period. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team working with happy and friendly children.

The full job description and details of how to apply can be found on the school website here.

Reception news

Reception curriculum evening

  • Date: Wednesday 15th January

On Wednesday 15th from 7pm-8.30pm, the session will be a follow-on from the one we held in the autumn term.

It is open to all Reception parents who would like to find out more about how and what their children learn in Reception. We will be covering end of year expectations, the next phase of learning in phonics, as well as giving further hints on how to support children at home.

We do need to know how many parents will be attending so that we can prepare resources.

Please click here if you would like to attend
