In school this week

The Christmas decorations are up in school, and we are beginning to feel rather festive now! The nativity practices have started, and the children are beginning to get excited - there were huge gasps this morning as the children came through the school hall and saw the Christmas tree up in the hall with its twinkling lights. Thanks to Mrs Higham, Mrs Merchant, Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Green, Mrs Millar, Mrs Chaney, Mr Richardson, Mrs Thirlway and Mrs Browning who stayed after school to create this surprise!

Last night was the PFA wreath making event, which was a great success. There was lots of creativity in the room and everyone went home with a wonderful wreath to hang on their front door.

Our Safety Day on Tuesday offered children lots of opportunities to learn new skills and ways to keep themselves and others safe. Their interactive First Aid session with Mrs McGurran was really popular, as were the bike sessions for the Key Stage 1 classes delivered by the team from Saddle Safari. The children also enjoyed their Scootability day. You can see below some of the things that they learned.

On Tuesday, we will be holding our Advent Service at All Saints and I would like to invite you to join us there. If you are able to walk down and back with us, we would appreciate the help, but if you aren't able to help this time, please meet us at the church!.

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Stranger Danger Alert

We have been made aware of a recent incident involving a local secondary student and wanted to make you aware of the situation which happened in Marlow High Street.

A boy was approached while crossing the street after a rugby training session. A man rolled down the window and said, "I've come to pick you up and take you to Maidenhead".. and that he'd been "asked by a family member to pick him up". The man was described by the boy as a 30-40 man driving a dark coloured medium sized car. This has been reported to police.

From time to time, we have reports of a similar nature and this can be unsettling for everyone.

We regularly talk to the children about stranger danger, but we will remind the children in school about the dangers that strangers can present and to be vigilant.

Thank you in advance for also reiterating at home the importance of staying safe at all times.

School lunches

As mentioned in the summer term, and more recently in the newsletter, we hope to be able to supply hot lunches again in school. This is something that takes quite a while, as we have to go through a tender process, once we have found 2 or 3 alternative, suitable suppliers.

Having been let down at the last minute by our previous supplier at the end of the summer term, our new suppliers, who are being used by other schools in the town, were engaged for a year. This company was only able to provide cold lunches, as they did not have the facilities to make hot lunches for all the schools who had found themselves without a lunch provider for the new academic year.

It has always been our intention to be able to supply hot lunches, so this is something that we hope to have in place by next September at the latest.

PFA news

It's disco time!

Get your dancing shoes on! We are excited to be seeing so many of your children tomorrow. You should all have had emails with details of the day. Please don’t forget a named water bottle and if your child finds discos a little loud, please consider sending them with ear defenders or some festive ear muffs.

As a special festive treat, Father Christmas will be popping in with snacks and a story and leaving behind a small Christmas gift. To all the fantastic parents, grandparents and carers who have volunteered to come along and help, thank you so much, we couldn’t do this without you. It’s going to be a blast!

Wreath making

The Festive spirit was in full swing last night for another successful wreath-making evening! We were very impressed with the finished creations and are very excited to see your wreaths hung on doors all over Marlow. A huge thank you to Helen Kitchen, Carly Stage and your team of Christmas elves for their excellent organisation, foraging and arranging skills!

Help decorate our school Christmas tree

  • Week commencing: Monday 2nd December

This Christmas, please help us decorate our school Christmas tree by buying a present for Marlow Infants. The PFA will be selling Christmas baubles before and after school for a week, starting on Monday 2nd December. The baubles will be used to decorate the school tree, placed outside reception.

Choose the item that you would like to buy for the school and pay that amount for the bauble. For example, if you would like to buy the school a set of children's scissors, pay £5 for the bauble, write your child's name on the bauble, and hang it on the tree.

Please help make this an extra special Christmas for all the children at the school. The items can all be purchased multiple times and all proceeds will be spent on the children of the school and their wellbeing. We can accept cash, WisePay, and ParentPay donations.

Christmas bake sale

Plans are coming together to bring you a festive bake sale. It's never too late to pledge your support. We need your donations of cookies, cakes, muffins, pies, flapjacks, brownies etc.! Home-made or shop bought gratefully accepted – extra points for something festive. Bakes can be dropped off on Thursday 5th at drop off in exchange for a mufti day. The bake sale will be held after school on the 6th December.

Elves needed

Santa has delivered some gifts to the school for the children which he will give to them on the last day of term. We require some 'Volunteer Elves' to help us wrap them ready for the last day of term, when Santa will be in school distributing them. If you could help with the wrapping, please let Mrs Wright in the office know.

Christmas cards

As a Green Flag School, and in-line with our School Eco Code, we undertake to find any means we can to help save the planet. With this in mind, we are asking that no Christmas cards be distributed by children in school. Many thanks for your support.
