22nd November 2024

In school this week

We are all looking forward to Active Journey next week, which starts on Monday, and I am definitely looking forward to getting a sticker on Friday - I just need to make sure that I walk to school at least 3 times over the week!

Can you believe Christmas is just over a month away? I am not sure where the time has gone to this half-term. Next week, we will be starting to practice our Advent Service with some Year 2 Worship Leaders, and we will be talking about how Advent is a busy time and sometimes people forget the real reason why we have Christmas. The worship leaders will be sharing this message in the service through a little role-play, to music. Do come along to the service if you can - it is a lovely way to start the Christmas season.

To continue with the Christmas theme, we are all excited about the school Christmas Disco which is taking place next week. It is the beginning of a whole series of fundraising events organised by the PFA for the run-up to Christmas. I would like to thank the PFA for all their hard work in putting on such exciting activities, and also for supporting us in school during this time.

Our Safety Day on Tuesday offers children lots of opportunities to learn new skills and ways to keep themselves and others safe. There is more information below, and we will, of course, share some photos of the day.

We also have a small number of tickets for grandparents. If you would like to request a ticket, please email the office. We may not be able to offer a ticket to every grandparent, therefore it will be first come, first served.

Please remember to bring these in a named bag by Friday 29th November.

Christmas Jumper Day

  • Date: Friday 13th December

On Friday 13th December, we will be taking part in Christmas Jumper Day to get into the Christmas Spirit, and help raise money for Save The Children. So get your festive jumper ready, and don't forget to make your donation to Save The Children. Details on how to donate will be communicated soon.

Advent Service at All Saints Church

  • Date: Tuesday 3rd December

The whole school will be walking to All Saints Church on Tuesday 3rd December for the Advent Service from 9.45am-10.15am. We will leave school at 9am and return by 11am.

We will require at least 6 volunteers per class to walk with the children. If you are able to help walk with us and join us for the service, please sign up below.

I am able to walk with the children

If you are unable to walk with the children but would like to attend the service, you are still very welcome to join us at the church.

The Zones of Regulation

In school, we use Zones of Regulation to teach the children skills which aim to improve levels of self-control and reduce impulsivity.

Today, children will come home with information about the Zones of Regulation we use in school, and how we help the children to identify a range of calming and alerting strategies that support them. This toolkit may also be useful for families to use at home.

Active Journey Week

  • Dates: Monday 25th – Friday 29th November

During active journey week we encourage parents/carers and children to walk, cycle, scoot to school. If you live further away from school, you can park your car further away from school than usual so that part of the journey can be walked (Park & Stride).

Every day, we ask the children to log how they came to school and during this week we will be trying to increase the number of active journeys.

Next Friday, we will be awarding the class trophy to the class who have the most active journeys in the week. The WOW (Walk Once a Week) badges will also be given out on Friday. For Active Journey week, we will be giving out stickers to children who have done at least 3 active journeys to school during the week.

Please see the Walking Map below. We would like to encourage families to park the car outside the circle marked on the map and then walk the rest of the way to school.

Safety Day - PLEASE WEAR PE KIT

  •  Date: Tuesday 26th November

As part of our Active Journey week (formerly known as 'Walk to School Week') which takes place during the week of 25th November, we will be holding our annual Safety Day.

As part of the Safety Day, the children will be taking part in a range of activities which principally focus on safety around transport and roads. During the day, the children will all have a Scootability session which will teach them how to ride and use their scooters safely. (There is no need to send children's scooters into school. Each child will be provided with a scooter and the necessary safety equipment for their session).

Other sessions include:

  • First Aid (provided by Dr McGurran)
  • Bicycle Safety (provided by Saddle Safari)
  • Road Safety (provided by teachers)

This year, Saddle Safari will again be offering a bicycle repair clinic at the front of school at the beginning of the day on 26th November. If you have a problem with a bike, you can bring it along to ask their advice!

Returning books

Library books

Children will have their last library session during the week commencing 2nd December. We will be collecting library books and bags during the week commencing 9th December.

Reading books

Reading books will continue to come home until the week commencing 9th December, when they will all be collected.

Virtual book fair

  • Dates: Monday 24th November – Sunday 1st December

We know that getting children engaged with books stimulates their imagination, develops social skills and helps them to learn about the world.

Please read below for instructions on how to support our school:

  1. Virtual Book Fair link: Gobbledybooks.co.uk
  2. All books are only £2.50 each, whatever the RRP. There are gift books, board books, touch and feel, flap books, picture books and many more to choose from
  3. Parents will be supporting the school with every purchase – for every 5 books bought, 1 extra free book will be donated to the school
  4. The code to enter at the checkout stage to get the free postage for your order is Marlow (not case-sensitive). The code will not work until the fair begins (9am) and will stop working after the fair ends (midnight)
  5. After selecting your books, enter the child's name, parent's name and school address in the postal address along with your code. Your books will be hand wrapped and delivered to the school with the child’s name on them to be handed out by staff
  6. Parents can look at school information on the website if they have any further questions

MDSA vacancy

We currently have a Midday Supervising Assistant (MDSA) vacancy. We are looking to appoint a responsible and enthusiastic individual who will ensure the safety, welfare and good conduct of the children during the lunchtime period. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team working with happy and friendly children.

Windsor Castle – REMINDER

  • Date: Friday 6th December

Thank you to those who have already provided consent. We still have a few children without parental consent. Please make sure this is done ASAP on ParentPay.

Request for supplies & help in school

If you have any old tea towels and spray bottles, please could these be brought in for our art projects this year. It really doesn't matter if the tea towels are stained, as they are using them as clay mats.

We would also like some parent helpers to come in the morning during the last 2 weeks of term to help the children make some Christmas items. If you are interested in helping the children, please sign up below.

PFA calendars & photos

Orders for calendars and photos close this Monday 25th November, so you still have time to order! Thank you to Nisha Guilmineau and your team of helpers for your support, time and effort in sorting these out. We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank Vic Kay-Barrero who did an amazing job photographing all the children! We aim to get the photographs and calendars in time for Christmas.

Help decorate our school Christmas tree

  • Week commencing: Monday 2nd December

This Christmas, please help us decorate our school Christmas tree by buying a present for Marlow Infants. The PFA will be selling Christmas baubles before and after school for a week, starting on Monday 2nd December. The baubles will be used to decorate the school tree, placed outside reception.

Choose the item that you would like to buy for the school and pay that amount for the bauble. For example, if you would like to buy the school a set of children's scissors, pay £5 for the bauble, write your child's name on the bauble, and hang it on the tree.

Please help make this an extra special Christmas for all the children at the school. The items can all be purchased multiple times and all proceeds will be spent on the children of the school and their wellbeing. We can accept cash, WisePay, and ParentPay donations.

Christmas bake sale

We need your donations of cookies, cakes, muffins, pies, flapjacks, brownies etc.! Home-made or shop bought gratefully accepted – extra points for something festive! Please drop off your delicious baked goods on Thursday 5th December, during drop-off. In exchange for your contributions, we will enjoy a mufti day! The cake sale will take place on Friday 6th December at pick-up. Thank you for your support and contributions to make this event a success!

Brickies

We had a really successful Brickies session last weekend! Thank you to Mandy Rooney for organising the event and everyone who helped on the day. A BIG thank you to all the children who attended, the creations made were really fabulous! We will be running this event again in 2025!
