15th November 2024

In school this week

Today, in school worship, we had a surprise visit from Pudsey. The children were very excited and some were able to have their photos taken with the star of the day!

We also had a visit from Mrs Mitchell with her 7-week-old daughter Zoe - the staff were very excited to see Mrs Mitchell and at lunchtime there were queues to give Zoe a cuddle!

We mentioned previously in the Newsletter that we had a vacancy for a parent governor. As only one person came forward, we did not need to hold an election, so I am pleased to say that Mrs Laura Oliver will be formerly appointed at the next Full Governing Body meeting.

Nativity Plays

If you haven't yet booked your ticket, you can do so here:

Book your ticket here

We have a limited number of tickets available per performance due to the capacity of the hall. We can only offer up to 2 tickets per family for 1 performance per child. Please only book 2 tickets if both parents/carers can attend the performance. This will allow every family to book their preferred day.

Character & costume slips

Children will bring home their character and costume slips today. Please read them, as we are asking some children to bring in items of clothing by Friday 29th November in a named bag. The children will need them kept in school for their dress rehearsals and performances.

Our new school logo

We are very excited to announce that we have a new school logo!

This logo has been designed to have a contemporary feel and incorporates elements that represent some of the important aspects of what Marlow Infants represents.

You can see in the logo our links to the community (via the river), the church (the cross) and eco work (the leaf). The overall feeling gives the impression of hopefulness.

We are gradually going to phase the logo into use. There is no need to buy any new uniform as the children will be able to wear uniform with the old logo for as long as needed.

Mrs Wright used her incredible graphic design skills to create the logo, and I am sure you will agree she has done a wonderful job.

Active Journey Week (formerly known as walk to school week)

Dates: 25th-29th November

The focus of this term's Active Journey Week is travelling safely. We will have our Safety Day on Tuesday (see below).

During active journey week we encourage parents/carers and children to walk, cycle, scoot to school. If you live further away from school, you can park your car further away from school than usual so that part of the journey can be walked (Park & Stride).

Every day, we ask the children to log how they came to school and during this week we will be trying to increase the number of active journeys. In Celebration Worship on Friday, there will be a trophy awarded to the class with the most active journeys during the week.

Safety Day

  •  Date: Tuesday 26th November

As part of our Active Journey week (formerly known as 'Walk to School Week') which takes place during the week of 25th November, we will be holding our annual Safety Day.

As part of the Safety Day, the children will be taking part in a range of activities which principally focus on safety around transport and roads. During the day, the children will all have a Scootability session which will teach them how to ride and use their scooters safely. (There is no need to send children's scooters into school. Each child will be provided with a scooter and the necessary safety equipment for their session).

Other sessions include:

  • First Aid (provided by Dr McGurran)
  • Bicycle Safety (provided by Saddle Safari)
  • Road Safety (provided by teachers)

This year, Saddle Safari will again be offering a bicycle repair clinic at the front of school at the beginning of the day on 26th November. If you have a problem with a bike, you can bring it along to ask their advice!

Reception news

Reception children sing to the community

  • Date: Thursday 12th December

On Thursday 12th December from 1.30pm – 3pm, we will be taking our Reception children to Liston Hall to sing to the U3A community group to help them with their festive celebrations. We have supported this event for many years and are excited about taking our Reception children to sing again. This will be our 2nd year of taking 4 and 5-year-olds, and we are proud to be able to do so.

U3A is an organisation which supports older people and those no longer working full-time in our community, with activities to support further learning or personal development. Formed in 2006, it has over 700 members and group activities such as engineering technology and transport, music appreciation day trips and walking groups, to name just a few.

As with all of these local area visits, we will require additional help from parents to ensure the safety of the children on the walk to and from Liston hall. If you can help on Thursday 12th December between 1.30pm and 3pm, we would love to hear from you.

PFA calendars & photos

Today your child will bring home a thumbnail and order information for our annual PFA calendars. These photo calendars are a great fundraiser for the school. They are A4 laminated and personalised with a print of your child’s photo plus all the school term dates on it, as a helpful reminder. Not only are they useful to have at home, they make great Christmas presents for family members too. You can also buy a copy of your child’s photo as a print or in digital form.

  • Laminated Calendar - £4 each
  • Digital .JPEG of Image - £5 each
  • 7x5 Colour Print - £3 each

Please order all items via ParentPay no later than Monday 25th November.

If you do not have the thumbnail or your child was absent on the day the photos were taken, and you would like to have a calendar made with a photo of your own, please send a high quality JPEG to pfa@marlow-infant.bucks.sch.uk, and we will arrange to have one made with this instead. Please send these along with order details by the above date.

Christmas bake sale

We need your donations of cookies, cakes, muffins, pies, flapjacks, brownies etc.! Home-made or shop bought gratefully accepted – extra points for something festive! Please drop off your delicious baked goods on Thursday 5th December, during drop-off. In exchange for your contributions, we will enjoy a mufti day! The cake sale will take place on Friday 6th December at pick-up. Thank you for your support and contributions to make this event a success!

Wreath making

Get into the Christmas spirit early at our annual PFA Wreath Making night. Bring family and friends along to make a beautiful fresh wreath for your front door. Festive refreshments, Christmas music and the chance to win a case of wine just by buying a ticket! What more could you ask for! Carly Stage (Year 2 mum) will be guiding us through, and no skills are needed to make a stunning wreath. A group of mums will be foraging for most of the greenery so we can raise as much as we can for the school. We really hope you can join us.

Tickets are live on Parent Pay at £30 each.
