In school this week

Welcome back to the second half of the autumn term. As always, we have lots of learning planned for the children and this, coupled with the run-up to Christmas, the 6 weeks ahead of us are going to be busy.

The half-term has got off to a flying start already and the children are excited about their new topics. You will see details below about what learning will be taking place next week in all year groups.

Preparations for the Christmas season have also started this week with the Year 2 teachers holding auditions for the casting of many of the characters in the KS1 nativity, including Mary & Joseph. More details will be sent home next week. You will also see below that you can book your tickets for the Reception and KS1 nativities.

This half-term's home learning set by me is on the value of respect. Throughout the half-term, in school worship, the children will learn about what respect is, how to show respect to each other and the types of people and things that we can show respect for and why. The Respect home learning will be on Google Classrooms this afternoon, and one of the activities for the whole school to take part in is to create a Gallery of Respect in the school hall. I am looking forward to seeing the children's contributions to the gallery.

General news & reminders

Recommended reads

Each week in Celebration worship this term, children share their favourite reads with the rest of the school. This week was the turn of Grasshopper class. Their favourite book is Marvellous Machines by Jane Wilsher and Andres Lozand.

Oli said, 'I like seeing the magnifying glass before you can see the pictures in the book. The magnifying glass makes things red'. Ambereen said, 'I like the kitchen page the best because you can see the red lines through the magnifying glass. You can see inside the fridge, microwave and toaster'. Harrison said 'I liked the book because of the page that shows you how to make a magnifying glass in a factory. You can see inside the machines, and it's interesting.'

Home Learning

Home Learning for this half-term will start to go live on Google Classrooms for each class this afternoon. There will be new activities published each Friday afternoon.

As mentioned before half-term, the class home pages are already live on the school website.

School uniform

PMG Schoolwear have recently taken over from our uniform supplier, Different Class.

Families can order uniform from our school page on their website here: www.pmgschoolwear.co.uk/school/marlowcofeinfantschool or by visiting their new store in Eden centre.

Waterproof trousers

As we are heading into winter, please ensure children have waterproof trousers for their outdoor learning lesson each week.

We have a stock of 2 different sizes in school, and next week a member of staff will be selling them at drop-off. You can pay for these on ParentPay for £10.25 or £10 cash.

Parent/carer regular helpers

If you missed the training days and are interested in becoming a regular helper in school, we are running another training session on Friday 15th November, 9am-9.45am.

If you are interested in becoming a regular helper, please click here to read the Confidentiality Policy and here to read the Child Protection Policy. Then click here to complete the form.

Anti-Bullying Week

We would like to remind you that Anti-Bullying Week 2024 will take place in school from Monday 11th – Friday 15th November, with the theme 'Choose Respect'. Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors will be leading school worship on Tuesday 12th November to tell the rest of the school all about it. The children will be learning about friendships and who to speak to if they need help.

Don't forget we will also be holding Odd Socks Day in school on Tuesday 12th November. All you need to do is wear odd socks. It's a great way to celebrate what makes us all unique in Anti-Bullying Week!

World Diabetes Day

  • Date: Thursday 14th November

Millions of people with diabetes face daily challenges managing their condition at home, work, and school. They must be resilient, organised, and responsible, affecting both their physical and mental well-being. Diabetes care often focusses only on blood sugar, leaving many overwhelmed. This World Diabetes Day, let’s put well-being at the heart of diabetes care and start the change for a better diabetes life.

Mrs Reynolds will mark the day by talking to the children about what diabetes is in school worship and will read a special book all about the condition.

Safety Day

  •  Date: Tuesday 26th November

As part of our Active Journey week (formerly known as 'Walk to School Week') which takes place during the week of 25th November, we will be holding our annual Safety Day.

As part of the Safety Day, the children will be taking part in a range of activities which principally focus on safety around transport and roads. During the day, the children will all have a Scootability session which will teach them how to ride and use their scooters safely. (There is no need to send children's scooters into school. Each child will be provided with a scooter and the necessary safety equipment for their session).

Other sessions include:

  • First Aid (provided by Dr McGurran)
  • Bicycle Safety (provided by Saddle Safari)
  • Road Safety (provided by teachers)

This year, Saddle Safari will again be offering a bicycle repair clinic at the front of school at the beginning of the day on 26th November. If you have a problem with a bike, you can bring it along to ask their advice!

Reception news

Reception children sing to the community

  • Date: Thursday 12th December

On Thursday 12th December from 1.30pm – 3pm, we will be taking our Reception children to Liston Hall to sing to the U3A community group to help them with their festive celebrations. We have supported this event for many years and are excited about taking our Reception children to sing again. This will be our 2nd year of taking 4 and 5-year-olds, and we are proud to be able to do so.

U3A is an organisation which supports older people and those no longer working full-time in our community, with activities to support further learning or personal development. Formed in 2006, it has over 700 members and group activities such as engineering technology and transport, music appreciation day trips and walking groups, to name just a few.

As with all of these local area visits, we will require additional help from parents to ensure the safety of the children on the walk to and from Liston hall. If you can help on Thursday 12th December between 1.30pm and 3pm, we would love to hear from you.

Christmas Disco

Ho ho ho, it’s Christmas disco time! Our festive themed disco parties will be held on Saturday, 30th November and, like last year, we will run 2 identical discos to ensure there is enough space for every Sandygate child to attend. These will be 1-2.30pm and 3-4.30pm.

There will be music, fun and games, a half-time snack and a visit from Santa with a small Christmas gift to take home. Tickets are £15 per child (Sandygate students only, we're afraid) and are available to book on ParentPay.

There are a limited number of tickets per disco so we'd advise you to discuss with your child's friends which disco they're booking, to avoid disappointment. We don't want any child to miss out on this experience, so if it is financially difficult for you, please contact the school office.

Wreath making

Get into the Christmas spirit early at our annual PFA Wreath Making night. Bring family and friends along to make a beautiful fresh wreath for your front door. Festive refreshments, Christmas music and the chance to win a case of wine just by buying a ticket! What more could you ask for! Carly Stage (Year 2 mum) will be guiding us through, and no skills are needed to make a stunning wreath. A group of mums will be foraging for most of the greenery so we can raise as much as we can for the school. We really hope you can join us.

Tickets are now live on Parent Pay at £30 each.

Silent auction

We are currently working hard to put together an incredible silent auction. Hopefully you will all be able to find something to bid on to help with your Christmas shopping! Thanks to the generosity of our Sandygate parents, we already have some impressive offerings. But we would be really grateful if you or your business/employer could help donate a prize. It could be for a physical gift, an experience, tickets to an event, a voucher or service. No prize is too big or too small. The more prizes we can get the better!

The benefit to you/your business is through people accessing the online silent auction website and the extra advertising and business this may lead to. The auction tends to go beyond the reach of just our school community as we share the link on the Marlow Facebook groups.

If you have any prize you can donate, please either let your year reps know, or you can contact Cori on pfa@marlow-infant.bucks.sch.uk

Thank you so much, we really appreciate all the help you are giving us!

  • Wreath making: Thursday 28th November

Judges will award 3 children (1 from each year group). Every child who enters will also receive a small gift.

  • Please include your child's name, age and class on the back of their drawing

  • The theme is 'sustainability and the environment'
  • Any questions, please contact hayleys@2heads.com

Traditional Late Night Shopping

Please find below details of this lovely Christmas event on the evening of Thursday 5th December.

Please see the words to the carols below.
