6th September 2024

In school this week

Welcome back to school for the new academic year! To see the Year 1 and 2 children and their families again after the long summer break was really heart-warming (despite all the rain yesterday). Over the last two days, the Reception children have had their school visit and Monday will be their first day at school! I look forward to welcoming them then and seeing their parents/carers at the PFA coffee morning (see below).

Today, we have had our Spirituality Day in school and the children in Year 1 and 2 have been learning about what spirituality is and that it is something that is different for each person. You can find some information about Spiritual Development at our school here.

Soon we will be welcoming Happy Circus to our school. On Sunday 22nd September, the red and white 'Big Top' will be on our field and there will be all sorts of exciting circus acts to watch. Whenever the circus visits school, it is always a popular, fun-filled family afternoon. If you would like to come along, you can purchase your tickets here.

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Arrival timings

Doors open: 8.45am-8.55am. Gates close at 8.55am and registers close at 9.00am.

Reception

When entering the school grounds, Reception families should use the footpath to the left-hand side when facing the school, and follow the path to the gate nearest the school building. They should follow the path down the side of the building for the Reception staff to come out and welcome the children.

KS1

Children should use the front door, and they walk down to the classrooms themselves. There is always a member of staff in each classroom and a member of staff from each year group at the door in the morning.

End of the school day

School finishes at 3.15pm and the arrangements for pick-up are as follows:

Reception

Reception families queue up on the footpath which runs down the side of the school. The front of the queue should start at the gate onto the Reception playground (we only use the gate to the covered area when it is raining). Teachers will bring their class out to the gate and dismiss the children one at a time to parents as they come to the front of the queue.

KS1

KS1 families should wait in the car park at the front of school but not too close to the front door. Teachers will take their class out of the school building via the front door, and they will line the children up behind them so that they are able to send the children to their parents/carers one at a time. Please do not come too close to the children, as this makes it difficult for the teachers to see who to dismiss the children to.

Please be patient as it can take a little while for the teachers to start to recognise which children belong to which parents/carers, and please do not take your child out of the line. This process forms an important part of our safeguarding procedures, and we need to ensure that we know that each child goes to the correct adult.

Please also note that we will not hand over a child to anyone who is not an adult - ie. under the age of 18 years old.

Morning fruit snack

We ask parents to send in a small fresh or dried fruit snack for their child to eat during break time. For example, a small banana, a box of raisins or a pot of sugar snap peas. Please don't send in fruit winders, sweets, chocolate or anything containing nuts. If grapes are sent in, please make sure they are cut in half.

Lunch

Years 1 and 2 have now experienced our new lunch service, and we've been pleased to see the children adapting well to the new process. They enjoyed choosing their sandwiches and any other food items displayed on the table.

We are excited for Reception to begin choosing their own lunch from Monday.

We would like to remind families that if your child brings in a packed lunch from home, they will eat their own food for lunch. If your child doesn't have a packed lunch, they will have the opportunity to choose their lunch from the selection of sandwiches and other food items, with help from our lunchtime staff. Therefore, there is no need to book your child's lunch at all with this new system. There will always be 6 different sandwich fillings to choose from each day, and they may vary from day to day.

If your child has a dietary requirement, and have informed us by filling out a form, they will have a special lunch waiting for them with their name on it.

PE/Library days for 2024-25

Below are details of the PE and library days for each year group for the new academic year. On PE days, the children come dressed in their PE clothes (please see details on the school website of what the school PE uniform is). On library days, children should bring in their library bags with their library book in them that they have taken home the previous week.

PE days

  • Reception: Monday (apart from their first day - please wear full school uniform 9th September)
  • Year 1: Wednesday & Thursday
  • Year 2: Tuesday & Friday

Library days

  • Reception: Friday
  • Year 1: Thursday
  • Year 2: Wednesday

Outdoor Learning days

  • Reception: Wednesday
  • Year 1: Thursday

Reception: To start with, from their first day at school, each child will need to bring a pair of wellies to leave in school. Next week, we will set up ParentPay accounts. Here you can order black waterproof trousers for your child (if you haven't bought some already).

Internal clubs

School run clubs won't start until after the half-term break. These will only be offered to KS1 children while our Reception children get used to their new school routines.

There will be a sign-up towards the end of half-term.

Individual school photographs

  • Date: Thursday 12th September

All children are to come dressed in full school uniform on this day as they will have their individual school photo taken.

Years 1 & 2

Meet the Teacher

  • Date: Tuesday 10th September 6.00pm-6.30pm

Meet the Teacher is held at the start of each new school year for parents in Years 1 and 2. It is a chance for the class teacher to introduce themselves to parents and tell you all about classroom expectations, the curriculum they will be teaching this year and some of the topics and activities the class will be doing.

The meeting will last around 30 minutes and will be held in your child's classroom. We regret that this is not an opportunity to have a conversation with the class teacher about any specific issues regarding your child.
