5th June 2024

In school this week

I really enjoyed being headteacher today. I had to do a safety check of the school grounds. I'm pleased to say that everything is in order apart from the litter left over from Open Afternoon. I have asked the caretaker to tidy it up.

I went to see what the children were learning, and I was very excited to see the Reception children drumming.

I loved leading celebration worship, it was fun giving the certificates out. I would really like to be a headteacher when I grow up (or an actress).

General news & reminders

Whole school news

Creative Week

  • Deadline: Monday 15th July

We are creating a large school mural made of recycled materials, and we would love to gather a rainbow of colours. Please could children bring in any small recycling that could be collaged to our canvas? We will be using a rainbow of colours so we will not need any blacks, whites or greys.

Sunflower competition

  • Deadline: Friday 19th July

How are your sunflowers doing? Don't forget to let us know your sunflowers' height before Friday 19th. Please send us a photo of your child standing next to it.

School-run clubs

As we only have a few weeks left of term, the last dates for our school-run clubs are listed below. We will send out information on how to sign-up to these clubs again in September.

  • Tidy-up team: 8th July
  • Sandygate Stars: Finished last week
  • Book Club: 10th July
  • Mindful Colouring: 10th July
  • Art Club: 11th July
  • Bible Bricks: 18th July
  • Maypole: 11th July
  • Science club: Today
  • Sandygate Singers: will run until the end of term but not  necessarily on Friday's

Lost property

From Monday morning, lost property items will be laid out on a table inside our Eco-Barn, every day next week. This will allow parents to have a look through unnamed items that have made their way into our lost property tub so far this term. After Friday, any items unclaimed will be donated to charity.

It is really important that all items that come into school are clearly named. All named items will be returned to their owners as soon as possible.

Library books

Next week will be the last library session of the year for all year groups. We will be collecting library books and bags during the week. If you have any library books at home, please send them in next week.

Reading books

Reading books will continue to come home next week, but we will collect them all in on Friday 19th July so that we can do a stock check.

Please check at home for any reading books that might be left there and send them into school.

Year 2 news

End of Year Service

  • Date: Tuesday 23rd July, 9am –10am

The End of Year Service is always a lovely, emotional, time as we say goodbye to our Year 2 children and wish them well for the next step in their learning journey. They will share some memories of their time at Marlow Infants and sing some of their favourite worship songs.

Year 2 parents will be able to book a ticket for this special service next week.

Legacy books

It's that time of year again when we kindly ask Year 2 families to donate a legacy book (or more than one) in memory of their child's time at our school. We will label these to show who they were donated by. They will really help with our Core Read Aloud programme and to instil a love of reading in our pupils in the future.

PFA news

Open Afternoon

What a difference a week makes. After a glorious Sports Day, the Open Afternoon was a more drizzly affair, but you all came out in force to visit classrooms old and new and watch your little ones perform; we hope you had a lovely afternoon. Thank you to Vicky Merrilees and Leila Choleva who organised a tuck shop and pizza delivery, to Gemma Hurley who held a beautiful plant and flower sale, and Del Simon who organised second-hand uniform.

Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to help Vicky and Leila raise around £500 for school.

Small change challenge

The small change challenge reached an end last Friday. A massive well done to Dragonfly class! We hope you enjoyed your mufti day today and commiserations to Butterfly class, you came so close. We think the children really enjoyed this challenge, especially on bucket emptying day!

Your pounds and pennies raised an incredible £790!

Happy's Circus

Date: Sunday 22nd September

The circus is returning to Sandygate this September; for any parents in Reception and Year 1 who haven't had an opportunity to see the show, this is a great afternoon out. For year 2 parents who have been before, never fear, as a parent who will be attending their 4th Sandygate circus this September, the show is different every time!

Tickets are available on Eventbrite. It's great fun for all the family and open to the whole community, so feel free to share with friends and neighbours.

Camp Night

There just a few pitches left for this years camp night. Join us for a relaxed and fun camping experience like no other.

Pitches are available on ParentPay for £30, which includes breakfast, and you can now order pizzas on ParentPay (large Domino's, Pepperoni or Margherita, £15 each)

Date: Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th July

PFA AGM

The PFA AGM will take place Thursday 18th July at 7pm at school. This is a shorter meeting than usual, legally required to take place each year.

We will have drinks and snacks to celebrate our achievements over the last year and would love to see as many people as possible. We are looking for new committee members to start from next year, so please come along or talk to us if you're interested.

The events the PFA puts on are valued by everyone in the school and the money raised is really necessary for the daily running of the school as well as funding a lot of the school trips etc.

Please feel free to speak to Rachel Bourdillon, Lauren King, Caro Robinson, Mandy Rooney, Charlotte Thompson or Claire Robinson for more information.

  • Date: Thursday 18th July at 7pm

Treat days

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for another treat day Friday, we hope you are enjoying their regular occurrence. Special thanks to Nisha Guilmineau for organising, and to Jen Twomey, Leila Choleva and Libz Dorsett for helping out. We'll be back next Friday and then on the last day of term! Children at Teatimers don't need to miss out, you can order an ice cream delivery on ParentPay. Please note this is only intended for children attending Teatimers after school on Friday July 12th.
