28th June 2024

In school this week

Who can believe that it was Monday this week that we held our sports day? It was an exciting morning with some very strong competition, both sporting and supporting. Huge thanks to Mrs Downing who organised a range of Olympic-themed activities.

This week we have also completed the Footsteps training for Year 2, finished the year group Acts of Service, had a trip to the Synagogue and done some transition work with the Year 2s. No wonder Monday seems a long time ago!

On Tuesday morning, you will find out what our staffing will be looking like next year. This will be sent to you via email. Currently, we are in the enviable position of being fully staffed, so we will be ready to hit the ground running for the new academic year.

Transition

We would like to remind you that Tuesday is Transition Day. All children will find out which class they will be in next year and spend the morning with their new teachers. We will send home a slip on Tuesday which will show you which class your child will be in.

Class mixes

Reception to Year 1

When the Reception children move to Year 1 in September, they will be in new class groups. At the end of their Reception year, we take the opportunity to mix children from Ants and Bees to create 2 new classes: Butterflies and Ladybirds. This is to enable us to balance the classes using our in-depth knowledge of the children, something that we didn't have last July.

Year 1 to Year 2

The mix of children in Year 1 will not be changed for their move to Year 2.

Year 2 to Holy Trinity

Year 2 children who are going to Holy Trinity Junior School will be mixed and put into 3 class groups ready for their move. Again, we will use our in-depth knowledge of the children to make as balanced a mix as possible. Holy Trinity will then add children from other schools starting with them in September to the 3 groups. They may not, however, have met their class teacher during the morning.

Our new Reception intake

On Tuesday morning, we will also welcome our new Reception children to spend some time in their new classes and meet their teachers and make some new friends.

Transition activities

Yesterday, Year 2 visited Holy Trinity in the afternoon. They visited the classrooms and played games outside with the Trinity staff.

In June, we took part in 30 Days Wild. Thank you to all the children who brought in items to include in our display in the hall. You still have time to send something in or send in a picture of your child taking part in one of the 30 Days Wild activities (see the challenge sheet that was sent home at the beginning of June which can also be found on your child's Google Classroom) if you haven't done so already. There are some activities for week 4 of the challenge here. We also have a nature table that we would love to see full of items from nature.

Open Afternoon

  • Date: Wednesday 3rd July, 4.00pm-6.00pm

Open Afternoon is a chance for your family to come in to see the school building, grounds and classrooms in a very relaxed, social way after the school day.

Each year group is working on a short performance, a dance or a song, which they will give during the afternoon and the Maypole and Sandygate Singers will also perform. The timings below are rough ones, but the events will take place in this order:

  • 4.00pm – Looking around classrooms
  • 4.30pm – Maypole club
  • 4.45pm – Reception performance
  • 5.00pm – Year 1 performance
  • 5.15pm – Sandyate Singers
  • 5.30pm – Year 2 performance

Please note that families are still welcome to look round the classrooms after 4.30pm, but the teachers may not be in their rooms after this time.

Praise in the Park

  • Date: Thursday 4th July

Praise in the Park is where church schools in Marlow gather together to sing and retell bible stories through dance. This year we are being joined by Holy Trinity School, Little Marlow School and Saint Peter's School. The event will be held in Higginson Park on Thursday 4th July from 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Parents, carers, grandparents are invited to join us as it's a whole community event.

We would like to give families the option to either collect your child at 3.15pm from school, or from Higginson Park, at 2.30pm after the event has finished. Please let us know which option you would prefer.

NEW after-school club: Outdoors Project

  • When: Fridays 3.15pm-4.15pm (from September)
  • Who: Year 1 & Year 2

The Outdoors Project transports children from their digital devices into the outside world. Children come to us to play games, make friends, learn new skills and simply be kids! Some of our most popular activities are built around pop culture icons, such as Harry Potter, Pokémon or Star Wars. Our tech meets nature sessions, such as Minecraft or Among Us, bring to life elements of the games that many children love. We are always outside, non-competitive and allow each child to find that one thing that they excel at in nature.

Visit www.theoutdoorsproject.co.uk to register your interest.

  • Select Wycombe & The Chilterns
  • Scroll down to Book After School Clubs
  • Marlow CofE Infant School

Please note that places are limited!

The deadline to register your interest is Friday 5th July.
