In school this week

There has been a huge amount happening this week, and it all started on Sunday with the children from our school singing at the Marlow Regatta. It is great to see our pupils joining in with others from schools across the town and the weather was such a contrast to the previous day. My thanks go to Mrs Downing for preparing the children for the day and to her and Mrs Howarth for helping during the performance.

This week, we have started our Acts of Service with Year 2 visiting May Balfour Gardens and Year 1 entertaining some of our church and local community. It has been good to see children appreciating that service is about helping others without expecting a reward.

Excitingly, the Year 1 classes were able to speak to children from our link school in Kenya. Mrs Howarth organised a Zoom call with pupils at the Bright Future Academy and Ladybirds and Butterflies were thrilled to be able to sing to and ask questions of their counterparts in Kenya.

Our bat adoption was completed this week and because the Ladybird reading group raised so much money, we were able to adopt 3 bats, one for each year group. The Bat Conservation Society were so pleased that they sent 3 soft toy bats for us to keep in school.

Refugee Week has also been happening this week and today the Rights Respecting School Ambassors held their sale in aid of Marlow Refugee Action. We will share some photos with you on Monday.

Finally, our SIAMS inspection went well yesterday, and it was a good opportunity for us to share all the fantastic work we do at Marlow Infants. I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work preparing for the inspection and them, as well as the governors and parents who were involved in the day.

RRS Ambassadors

Last week, we had a visit from the local police which stemmed from the RRS Ambassadors' concern about speeding on Seymour Park Road. They talked about how to combat speeding and road safety. The police brought with them a speed camera and let the children use it and then measured how fast they could run.

They also spoke about coming in again and taking some children on the road to measure the speed of the cars driving down Seymour Park Road.

Sports Day

  • Date: Monday 24th June, 9am – 12 noon

To celebrate an amazing summer of sport, our sports day this year will be based on the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our amazing young athletes will work in mixed year groups (siblings will be together) to get as many points as they can in each activity. Each activity will be based on some of the Olympic and Paralympic sports; these include para-athlectics, tennis, surfing, football, paralympic goalball, steeplechase and sport climbing to name a few! The morning will culminate in class running races, where all children are supported to reach their personal best.

Come and join us for a fun and supportive morning of sport and with the PFA providing refreshments for the adults. What more could you want for a Monday morning?

Praise in the Park

  • Date: Thursday 4th July

Praise in the Park is where church schools in Marlow gather together to sing and retell bible stories through dance. This year we are being joined by Holy Trinity School, Little Marlow School and Saint Peter's School. The event will be held in Higginson Park on Thursday 4th July from 1.30pm-2.30pm.

Parents, carers, grandparents are invited to join us as it's a whole community event. We will need some volunteers to walk the children to and from the event.

Winners of the Summer Drawing Competition

All children who entered the competition produced such amazing entries, which made it incredibly hard to choose only 3 winners! The winners all received a large box of craft items. Well done everyone.

The winners are...

  • Year 2: Jemimah
  • Year 1: Ziggy
  • Reception: Wren

Open Afternoon

  • Date: Wednesday 3rd July, 4.00pm-6.00pm

Open Afternoon is a chance for your family to come in to see the school building and grounds in a very relaxed, social way after the school day. The children in Years 1 & R will have spent the previous morning in the classroom they are moving to in September and this will be an opportunity for them to show this to you. You can come and see some of the work the children have done which is displayed in classrooms and communal areas. You do not have to stay for the whole time, but we would appreciate the children being there for their year group or club performance. It is a relaxed event and families can come and go as suits them and their other commitments.

Each year group is working on a short performance, a dance or a song, which they will give during the afternoon and the Maypole and Sandygate Singers will also perform. The timings below are rough ones, but the events will take place in this order:

  • 4.00pm – Looking around classrooms
  • 4.30pm – Maypole Club
  • 4.45pm – Reception
  • 5.00pm – Year 1
  • 5.15pm – Sandyate Singers
  • 5.30pm – Year 2

PFA AGM

The PFA AGM will take place Thursday 18th July at 7pm at school. This is a shorter meeting than usual, legally required to take place each year.

We will have drinks and snacks to celebrate our achievements over the last year and would love to see as many people as possible. We are looking for new committee members to start from next year, so please come along or talk to us if you're interested.

The events the PFA puts on are valued by everyone in the school and the money raised is really necessary for the daily running of the school as well as funding a lot of the school trips etc.

Please feel free to speak to Rachel Bourdillon, Lauren King, Caro Robinson, Mandy Rooney, Charlotte Thompson or Claire Robinson for more information.
