In school this week

On Tuesday, the Year 2 worship leaders did such a good job leading our Pentecost Service. When we planned the service, the children knew exactly what they wanted to do, and it worked so well! They spoke confidently and shared the meaning of Pentecost – we were all very proud of them. Thanks to Rev. Dave who joined us too.

We have recently been told that Dolce, our hot lunch supplier, will no longer be operating out of their Bourne End hub after 31st August. This has left us (and another 20 schools) without a hot lunch provider for the next academic year. We have spent a lot of time looking for alternatives and, at this moment in time, we have been unsuccessful. We have, however, secured a contract with a company which will supply us with cold lunches which will be provided for all of our children, should their parents/carers want to take up the offer, free of charge. This is also covered by the Universal Infant Free School Meals grant in the same way as our hot meals were. Our ambition is to provide hot meals again and will continue to look for a solution so that we have something in place before the end of the next academic year. The company that we will be using for the cold lunches is Kids Lunch Company. There is a leaflet about their services at the bottom of this newsletter.  I know this will be a big change for us, but we will keep you informed and let you have more details as they become available.

The summer term is already well under way and when we return after half-term, we have lots of new learning planned and there will also be transition activities for all year groups. We will put details of these activities in the newsletter, so that you know what is happening.

Wishing you a restful half-term,

Mrs Reynolds

Art Councillors

  • Deadline: Friday 7th June

The Art Councillors had a meeting this week and have decided to put together a Summer Drawing Competition for all children to try over half-term. They voted on the best templates for each year group and shared their ideas with everyone in Collective Worship this morning. There will be one winner in each year group who will receive a large box of craft items!

Each child should receive their template from school today so that they are all ready to start drawing over half-term. If, for some reason, an additional copy is needed, the templates are also uploaded to Google classroom for reprinting!

This is a drawing competition, so we are encouraging children to use their creativity and flair and not use glue to stick anything on or other art media (painting etc).

Please can we have entries given to class teachers by Friday 7th June to be within a chance of winning.

Good luck and happy drawing!

Travel Awareness Week

Travel Awareness Week has been a successful one – thank you to everyone who participated. The impact of the week has been that we have seen an increase in more sustainable journeys to school across nearly all the classes.

All children who earned a WOW badge during the month of May received their badge today. Additional badges have also been given out to children who have travelled more sustainably during this week.

Ladybird Class had the most improved 'active' journeys, so they won the term trophy which was presented during Celebration worship today. Any child who makes a concerted effort to improve or increase their active journey to school will receive a 'living streets' badge.

Creative Week

  • Dates: 15th – 19th July

Calling all creatives! We welcome any parent/carer with a creative background to come to school and run a workshop with the children for an afternoon. We would love you to share your creative knowledge in a fun, hands-on way for both classes in your children's year group. It can be any day during this week, from 1.30pm-3pm.

Online Safety

As you may be aware, we use a range of sources to teach children about online safety. National College provides us with some resources that we use in lessons, and we use the platform for training staff about online safety. National College offers parents and carers who have children at Marlow Infants access to free training and updates about staying safe online. This takes the form of webinars, courses and #WakeUpWednesday guides.

You can access the site using the link below. You will then need to set up an account and choose your course or webinar.

 https://nationalcollege.com/enrol/marlow-c-of-e-infant-school

There are courses for a range of children's ages, so if you have older children, there is something for you. Here are a few examples:

  • Annual Award in Online Safety for Parents & Carers of Children Aged 3-7
  • Annual Award in Online Safety for Parents & Carers of Children aged 7-11
  • Annual Award in Online Safety for Parents & Carers of Children aged 11-14
  • Annual Award in Online Safety for Parents & Carers of Children aged 14-18

Each week the #WakeUpWednesday guides are shared on the National Online Safety Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn profiles. The guides provide expert advice on the latest platforms and online risks that parents and carers need to know about - a brand-new guide every Wednesday. You can sign up to receive these direct to your inbox through the site.

#30 Days Wild

In June, we will be taking part in 30 Days Wild.

30 Days Wild is The Wildlife Trusts' annual nature challenge where they ask the nation to do one 'wild' thing a day every day throughout June. We will be participating in this in school over the month, but the Eco Warriors would also like everybody to try doing some daily wild activities at home. It can be anything you like – having breakfast with the birds on Monday, feeling the grass between your toes on Tuesday, and watching wildlife webcams on Wednesday. There’s no set structure, so you can take part in a way that suits you. Alongside benefiting your local wildlife, taking part in 30 Days Wild has proven to make you feel happier, healthier, and more connected to nature.

On Google Classroom you will find a calendar checklist and activity cards with ideas to help you get outside and into nature at home.

Marlow Infants bird box – Whole school

Our 5 chicks have developed rapidly, thanks to their hard-working parents, constantly bringing them food. We've watched them poke their beaks outside their bird box, so it's very nearly time for them to fly off and spread their wings!

RE – photos of special things

  • Deadline: Monday 17th June

After half-term, we will be discussing special objects in our RE lessons as part of our Judaism topic. We are discussing special objects found in many Jewish homes. It would be really lovely if children were able to bring in a photograph of something that is special/precious to them within their own home and be able to share with the class why it is special to them.

This is not compulsory, and we don't expect everyone to bring one, but if your child would like to share something special with them, please send them in with a photo of it. We will be looking at these on Monday 17th June, but we can accept the photos early and store them in school.

Please don't send in the actual items.

Small change challenge

Starting after half-term, can your class collect the most small change? We would love your coins! Children are invited to bring in small change from home and pop it into the collection bucket in each classroom. The class that makes the most money by the end of June will win a mufti day.

Pounds sterling only please.

Happy's Circus

Roll up, roll up, the circus is back in town!

The ever popular Happy Circus will be returning to the school field on Sunday 22nd September! This family circus show has been enjoyed by many children and families across the land and is a show not to be missed. Be mesmerised by the trapeze artists, amazed by the clowns' cheeky tricks whilst enjoying the breathtaking atmosphere inside the big top tent.

Here is a sneak preview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ipGpGKTIEI

Tickets will go on sale after half-term, so add the date to your diary.  Tickets will be available for the whole community, so spread the word to family and friends outside of school too.

  • Date: Sunday 22nd September

Football screening

Sadly, we will not be holding a screening of an England match at school during Euro 24 as we were unable to find anyone to run the event.  Thank you to Mrs Reynolds who had managed to find us some outdoor screening equipment.

Second hand uniform

After 3 years, Claire Robinson, currently handling our second-hand uniform, passed on the baton to Reception parent Del Simon. Many thanks to Del for taking on this important role. We would like to thank Claire for all her amazing help and dedication in making sure the uniform was clean and readily available for families to use. As an Eco School, it is a requirement to offer second-hand uniform, and it's a great chance to make sure good quality uniform doesn't go to landfill.

Donations can be handed in at the office. Please consider the quality of the garments that you donate; if you wouldn't buy it, it's probably best to get rid of it elsewhere, like at a local textile recycling facility.

Bag2School

Nice weather has arrived, which means that you may have found that your child has grown out of all their summer clothes! Luckily, Bag2School will be visiting school the first Friday back after half-term, so why not have a clear out? No school uniform, workwear, duvets or cushions please.
