In school this week

Message from the Headteacher

I have really enjoyed my day as headteacher. I have done a health & safety walk round school. Everything seemed fine apart from I noticed that there was a branch on a tree in the Wild World that was blocking a path. I have also been getting the Year 2 leavers’ presents ready for the last day of term and I handed out the certificates in Celebration Worship. The children have been learning lots today and I have visited all the classrooms. Butterfly class had to move to Peacock room today because a solar panel has been fixed to the roof above their classroom. They did very well and quite liked their new classroom. They will be back in Butterfly Classroom on Monday.

General News and Reminders

Returning school books – Whole school

This week was the last week for library sessions for this academic year. We kindly ask all children to return their library books next week.

For Year 1 and Reception, there will be no new phonics readers next week and those that the children already have will be collected in.

On Monday 17th July, we will be collecting all other reading books, so that we can conduct an audit and ensure that we are well stocked for the new academic year. Even though the reading books will not be coming home after 17th July, we encourage you to continue to read with your children to keep up their reading skills. Books from home can be used or a visit to the Marlow Library over the summer will provide an alternative source of reading material!

Please check bookshelves at home to see if there are any stray school books there too and return them to school before the end of term.

Childrens work – Whole school

The children will start bringing home their exercise books soon to show you the work they have been doing in school this year.

Please send in a strong named carrier bag next week ready for your child to bring their work home in during the last week of term.

End of Year Service – 21st July – Year 2

The End of Year Service is always a lovely, emotional, time as we say goodbye to our Year 2 children and wish them well for the next step in their learning journey. They will share some memories of their time at Marlow Infants and sing some of their favourite worship songs.

Year 2 parents have been sent a link to book their tickets this week.

Art Exhibition: 14th July – Whole school

Next week we are having a Creative Week!

At the end of Creative Week we will be running an exhibition on 14th July between 2.00pm and 4.00pm, to showcase art made by the children. You can book a time slot to visit the exhibition here

We would love some helpers to help run the set-up and take down of the exhibition. Please let the office know if you are able to help.

Legacy Books – Year 2

It's that time of year again when we kindly ask Year 2 families to donate a legacy book (or more than one) in memory of your child's time at our school. We will label these up to show who they were donated by. They will really help with our Core Read Aloud programme and to instil a love of reading in our pupils in the future.

If you would like to purchase a book from our wish list please click here.

Toilet Twinning – Whole school

Sustainable Development Goal 6 is the global aim of having clean water and sanitation for everybody by 2030. During our Water Day in the spring term, the children all decided that, as a school, they wanted to help with clean sanitation and thought that as the KS1 toilets were twinned with a toilet block in Malawi (a result of previous fundraising), that it was only fair that we twin the Reception toilets too.

A big thank you to those who have already donated, we now have successfully raised enough to Toilet Twin the Reception toilets, with a total amount of £86!

PFA News

Date for your diary – Wednesday 19th July

The PFA AGM will be taking place Wednesday 19th July at 7.30am at school.

This is a shorter meeting than usual, legally required to take place each year. We will have drinks and snacks to celebrate our achievements over the last year and would love to see as many people as possible. We are still looking for a new secretary and new chair to start from next year, so please come along if you're interested. The community events the PFA put on are valued by everyone in the school, and the money raised is really necessary for the daily running of the school as well as funding a lot of the school trips etc.

There are quite a lot of already very active PFA members who are happy to stay on the committee, but we do need a bit more support and would love to see some new faces.

Please feel free to speak to Rachel Bourdillon, Lauren King, Caro Robinson, Jo Snell or Claire Robinson for more information.
