9th June 2023

In school this week

Today we have had a great Eco Day of Action. The children have all been inspired to learn about endangered animals in the UK. From Hedgehogs to Red Squirrels, Otters and Adders. Thank you for the donations that have been made for the day – these will be sent to the Bucks, Berks and Oxon Wildlife Trust whose aim is to help develop and repair habitats and bring wildlife back. So far, we have raised £83. If you have not yet donated, you can do so on ParentPay.

We have also tried to reduce the use of electricity and in the classrooms, it has been back to basics without the use of computers, interactive boards and lighting. We even sang our song in school worship without the use of backing music-the children’s voices were simply enough!

So, what was the impact on our electricity usage? We saved an impressive 31kw of electricity. Last Friday, we used 51kw and this Friday we only used 20kw. We hoped to develop the children’s awareness of how reliant we are on electricity and the importance of conserving as much energy as we can.

I am looking forward to seeing the Year 1s singing on Sunday in Higginson Park with other Marlow schools.

General News and Reminders

Trip to All Saints – Reception

This term we are focusing on the value of ‘service’ and each year group is carrying out an act of service in our local community.

On Wednesday 28th June, children in Reception will be walking to All Saints Church to carry out some work in the churchyard. In order to do this, we will need some parent to walk with us and help for the morning. We will be aiming to leave school at 9am and will be back for 11am. If you are able to help us please could you let the office know. We are looking for a minimum of 12 volunteers.

May Balfour Gardens – Year 2

On Tuesday 20th June, Dragonfly class will be walking to May Balfour Gardens on Institute road, SL7 1BN. Grasshopper class will go the following day (Wednesday 21st June).

They will be providing an Act of Service by litter picking and planting bulbs for the community to benefit from. This garden is a common lunch spot for many, and we hope the work will help brighten people’s day and look after our world. If your child has a litter pick and would like to bring it in to help, that would be much appreciated.

Class Home Pages and Home Learning - Whole School

The Teachers have updated the class home pages for this half-term and these are now live on the school website. These home pages provide an overview of the learning that will be taking place in your child's class over the next 6 weeks.

Home Learning for each class has gone live today on Google Classroom. There will be new Home Learning tasks available every Friday afternoon.

Singing in the Park – Year 1

Year 1 have been invited to sing at Higginson Park on Sunday 11th June between 12.30pm – 1pm for the Marlow Regatta, other schools will also be participating. We would love to see as many Year 1 children as possible. If you would like your child to attend, please sign up here. We kindly ask that children wear their red school jumper/cardigan.

Here are some details about the day for your information:

  • Time to assemble in the park – 12.15pm
  • Choir performance to commence at 12.30pm
  • Meeting point to the left of the stage as you look at it

⛺Camp Night 2023: 8th – 9th July 4pm onwards⛺

The Sandygate Camp Night returns for the first time in 3 years. This is an opportunity for us to all have a relaxed and fun afternoon and evening together, camp, eat, drink and be merry.

We open the gates at 4pm and welcome families to bring their tents/sleeping bags/camping gear to spend the night on the school field. Tickets will go on sale on Monday 12th June and are £30 per ticket (to include tent pitch, hot drinks and a cereal/croissant breakfast) Pizza's for supper are available to buy separately on ParentPay and will be delivered to the school around 5.30pm on the Saturday.

Spaces are limited to 65 pitches only (due to limitations in numbers of people allowed on the school grounds). We ask that you only bring your own children to this event and no tent sharing please. This is usually a popular event, and we envisage tickets/pitches will sell out.

Message from Youth Moves

Dear Parents,

I hope you have enjoyed a lovely whitsun break and the lovely bonus of an inset day. With huge apologies for any disruption, next Monday's class 12th June has had to be pushed back to Monday 17thJuly. Sadly Natasha has to attend a family funeral on Monday. I have tried hard to find a cover teacher, but this has proved impossible.

We are in the midst of trials for our other classes this half-term so if you would like to dance with us next week you are very welcome to join either on Tuesday at 4.45pm for our Project Dance Ballet class or our other infant Youth Moves with Amy on Thursday 4pm at All Saints Church Hall – just drop me an email if you want to come along. No charge for these extra sessions.

Kindest regards

Jane Douglass, JDFD
