21st April 2023

In school this week

Welcome back to the summer term. I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter break. It was lovely to have some spring sunshine amongst the showers!

Everything is already back in full flow in school with all year groups making a start on their new topics. You will find details of areas of learning for all classes on the Class Home Pages which go to live today. The teachers have lots of exciting learning and enrichment planned which I am sure will make the half-term fly by.

Next week, we are participating in another Mini marathon to mark the return of the London Marathon to the spring. We will not be fundraising this time but helping the organisers to attempt to gain a Guinness World Record title of 'The most pledges received for an exercise campaign in one month'.

On April 27th and 2nd May, The NEU (National Education Union) have strikes planned. Currently, we will not be affected by the strikes and the school will be operating as usual.

Vision & Value Leaders and Art Councillors need your help - Whole school

The Vision and Values leaders and the art councillors met yesterday to discuss updating the big cross that forms part of the refection area on the playground. They looked at a selection of different designs and decided that they would like to create one in the style of a Salvadorian cross but using images that were important and memorable of Marlow.

The leaders and the councillors suggested that it would be best if all children could contribute to the cross and are asking every child to draw a picture of something in Marlow that they like the best. For example, the bridge, the river, their school, the Wild World or their friends. There are, of course, many other things to choose from.

In school worship today, the leaders and councillors spoke to the rest of the school about their ideas and the children were very enthusiastic.

Please could children draw their picture on an A5 piece of paper using bright colours and bring their designs into school by Friday 28th April. The leaders and councillors will then choose designs to be used to create the final cross.

Home Learning and Class Home Pages

The Home Learning for all year groups will go live on Google Classrooms at the end of the school day today. This is set by the teachers for those parents who wish to support their children's learning at home.  You should get notifications via email when the home learning goes live.

In addition to this, an overview of the learning that will happen in school this half-term has gone live today on your child's Class Home page which is on the school website.

General News and Reminders

Kings Coronation Celebration - Whole school

We will be celebrating the King Coronation in school on Friday 5th May, and we have lots of fun planned for the day.

This will be a non-uniform day, and we would love the children to come in wearing Red, White and Blue for the occasion. They will be taking part in lots of activities during the day, and at lunchtime we will be having a street party on the school playground.

Street Party Lunch

Lunch will be street party style, outside on long tables. There will be picnic lunches available for order from Dolce. We would like all children to order one of these lunches from School Grid. More details will follow.

If you are unable to book the picnic lunch because of your child's allergies please email the school office, and we will notify Dolce separately to ensure that alternatives are provided for your child.

After School Family Picnic - 3pm to 5pm

We would like to invite all Sandygate families to join us on the school field after school on the 5th for a Family Picnic.  This will be a lovely opportunity to come together with other families to celebrate the Kings Coronation. You will need to bring your own picnic and a rug. There will be a tuck shop run by the PFA. Please note that you will have full responsibility of your child/ren. Also, if rains, this picnic will be cancelled.

Parent Information Session - Whole school

On the 3rd May from 7pm - 8.30pm we are running an interactive, information session for all parents to gain more of an understanding about Online Safety, PE and metacognition in school.

We have shared with you on a few occasions that metacognition is one of our key school development priorities for this year.  We are making good progress with this and wanted to share with you the sorts of things that we are using in class which is helping the children to become more aware of how and what they are learning.

Online Safety is an area that many parents are concerned about, and during the session we will aim to outline how we teach online safety in school and give you hints and tips on how to keep your children safe online.

We  are incredibly proud of our PE curriculum which goes above and beyond the National Curriculum, not only teaching the children the expected skills but also developing the coach/mentor relationship. We use the Real PE platform and curriculum and are a Real Legacy school. During the session we will outline the background, principles and curriculum for PE in our school.

We will also provide some advice on what you could do  to support your child/ren at home in these areas. If you would like to attend the session please sign up here.

Before school - Whole school

We would like to remind parents that while you are waiting for the school doors to open in the morning, children are your responsibility. We don't want children getting hurt or feeling upset before they come into school because they are not being supervised.

Reception for September 2023

We have a few places available in our Reception classes for September 23 start. If you know anyone who might be interested, please share with them the information below.
