Year 1 Visit Windsor Castle

Year 1 trip to Windsor Castle – Monday 10th November
As part of the History Curriculum and the Year 1 topic on Kings, Queens and Castles, Butterfly and Ladybird classes went to visit Windsor Castle to deepen their learning.
The children enjoyed exploring the castle and the gardens, paying particular attention to the mediaeval features of the castle. The Round Tower is a key feature of the castle, and the children learned that if the Royal Standard flag is flying, this indicates that The King is in the Castle, which he was! Some children were also lucky enough to see The Changing of the Guards taking place outside the castle.
Later on, there was a visit to some of the rooms in the State Apartments, and then a walk to St George's Chapel.
After all the walking around, each class went to the Learning Centre and learned all about the life and the role of King Charles III. So much fun was had when the children had the chance to take on the roles of King and Queen.
The journey back to school was an adventure, as the coach broke down, but while they waited for a replacement, everyone enjoyed some rousing singing!
Thank you to the volunteers that joined us on the trip.
