Eco Day of Action

Eco Day of Action  - Thursday 5th June

We held our Eco Day of Action yesterday, and it was a very exciting day! All over school, we had the lights, most computers and hand dryers switched off, and we managed to reduce the amount of electricity we normally use. The focus year was the importance of water. We also marked this by wearing something blue, and held a special school worship to find out more about why water is so important, and learn about the aims of Sustainable Development Goal 6. (Clean Water and Sanitation for everybody by 2030). We also discussed how we could help others who do not have access to clean water and sanitation and learned about the charity Water Aid. The children thought about ways that help could help:

  • Save water: Take shorter showers and don’t let the tap run when brushing my teeth, doing dishes and preparing food
  • Stop polluting: Don’t put food waste, oils, medicines and chemicals down my toilet or drains or allow plastic to be dumped in our seas
  • Be curious: Find out where my water comes from and how it is shared, and visit a treatment plant to see how my waste is managed
  • Protect nature: Plant a tree or create a rain garden – use natural solutions to reduce the risk of flooding and store water
  • Take action: Write to councils and other organisations about improving water and waterways in our town
  • Clean up: Help to clean up our local river and wetlands

During worship, Year 2 performed a dance to the song 'Oceans' (by Hillsong United) for the whole school to enjoy. They had been practising for a few weeks, and it was lovely to see the final performance yesterday!

A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated to Water Aid. You can still donate here.
