Travis Ludlow Round the world pilot

Travis Ludlow, the record-breaking teenage pilot visits Sandygate

On Thursday 20th January we were joined in school by Travis Ludlow, the Record-Breaking teenage pilot.

Travis entered the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest person to fly around the world solo last summer when he completed the 25, 000 mile flight in 44 days at the age of 18. Travis was a 6th form student at Great Marlow School at the time and lives locally.

He spoke to the whole school in worship about his experience and then spent time with the Year 2 classes talking more about flying to support their topic for this half-term which is 'Flight'

Some interesting facts that the children found out included:

'The small planes only have one engine and a propeller', 'On Travis' plane the wheels fold in but the big planes they do', 'The coldest part of his round the world flight was Greenland' and 'Travis had to take lots of food for the journey, but he gave his Jaffa Cakes away to Russian children'.
