Maidenhead Synagogue

Year 2 visit the Maidenhead Synagogue - Wednesday 25th June
This half-term in Religious Education, Year 2 have been exploring where Jewish people worship God.
They’ve been learning about the key features and special objects found in synagogues and Jewish homes. To bring their learning to life, the children visited the synagogue in Maidenhead on Wednesday, where they had the opportunity to see these sacred items up close and hear from a member of the Jewish community about how they worship.
One of the most memorable moments of the visit was seeing the ark (a beautifully crafted cabinet that holds the Torah scrolls) being opened. Located at the front of the synagogue and traditionally facing Jerusalem, the ark revealed the Torah scrolls inside, creating a real sense of awe and wonder amongst the children.
The pupils also learned about Shabbat and were shown how a traditional Shabbat table is set in a Jewish home. They listened attentively as they discovered what makes this weekly ritual so meaningful.
We hope this experience has deepened their understanding and respect for how people of different faiths worship and celebrate their beliefs. We would like to thank all the parents/grandparents who joined us on the trip.
