Waddesdon Manor

Year 1 visit Waddesdon Manor - Tuesday 4th June

Year 1 had an amazing day full of science on our first ever trip to Waddesdon Manor.

The children had an exciting day learning about the life cycles of ladybirds, bees and butterflies. They took part in an insect in the beautiful rose garden, found ladybird larvae, pupae as well as some tiny ladybird eggs.

They experienced different smells from the huge variety of plants at the Manor and enjoyed spotting and naming common British flowers and naming the parts of a flower.

After lunch, they went into the woods and used leaves, twigs, pine cones and other found natural objects to make their own bug hotels.

There was fierce competition between the groups in each class, with zip wires for ants, spas for butterflies and saunas for bees. The bug hotels were left for the insects to enjoy after the children went home. The children enjoyed calling out to the Myna birds in the Aviary, who mimicked everything the children said. This caused lots of giggles.

The Waddeson Manor staff were incredible and very knowledgeable, and we would like to thank them and our parent volunteers for helping us on the day.
